Y/Project Spring Summer 2022 at Paris Men’s Fashion Week

Shortly after presenting his debut collection as Diesel’s creative director in Milan, Glenn Martens was back to the day job unveiling his Y/Project SS22 line-up alongside a fresh collaboration with Fila to celebrate the Italian brand’s 110th anniversary.

“I see this collaboration, really, as a marriage of Y/Project’s experimental spirit and Fila’s innovative drive grounded in sportswear,” the designer said. “The process was as easy as it was fun, and it allowed me to openly explore a streetwear direction that felt new. There is a fresh, happy vibe to the endeavour that I think is right for this moment.”

The fun part shone bright through the collection, which featured Martens’ signature, experimental pattern cutting – trademark suspender jeans, asymmetrical denim separates and jackets, dresses and silky skirts gathered at the waist – but also convertible garments like knits with multiple head holes and strappy mini dresses with an organza layer designed to be adjustable with a drawstring for full or minimal coverage.

FILA’s sportswear heritage filtered across jersey pieces and windbreakers printed with the brand’s ubiquitous logo but cut Y/Project style with contrasting panels, cut-out necklines and snap fastenings that allow for various styling possibilities. The looks were accessorised with updated vegan rubber mules from Y/Project’s joint line with Melissa, statement jewellery and a revisitation of FILA’s iconic 90s Grant Hill basketball sneakers.
