2021 is a decisive year for climate change so the Autumn Winter 2021 collection is named after the coordinates -75.500000, -106.750000 which refer to the Thwaites Glacier. Located in Western Antarctica, it is considered the most important glacier in the world and at the same time the most endangered, due to its high and rapid thawing rate, which could cause serious consequences for the planet if action is not taken in the next 18 months.
This collection explores the contrast between mixed feelings, accelerated changes and is inspired by the attractiveness of nature and nostalgia, balance and imbalance, uncertainty, hope, challenge, doubt, stress, insecurity, self-responsibility.
The fabrics in the collection stand out for their natural and nostalgic tones: beige, brown, natural green and navy – known to us in a time of accelerated change – and saturated colors such as yellow and green which are inspired by digital culture and the information overload.
The collection introduces the brand’s own monogram, inspired by the ³Barracas´ typical of Sonia’s hometown Valencia. The motif is present in the suit, shirt, dress and a new shape: the bodysuit, made of certified recycled cotton and recycled wool knitwear. The collection’s Merino wool comes from transhumant activity in Central Spain, representing one of the last great migrations of herbivores across Europe and in danger of extinction. The brand is actively contributing to improving the living conditions of transhumant herders by directly monitoring all phases of production. This allows the identification of each yarn, fabric and final garment from its origin. The ambition is to ultimately connect the transhumant herds, shepherds and values of heritage with our consumer.
Experimenting with sharp tailoring is at the core of the collection, deconstructing shapes and techniques to reach new limits. Handmade tapestries are also present and showcase the power of craftsmanship in Sonia Carrasco’s work. _
Sonia decided to present the collection through a video starring dance muse Carla Cervantes in front of some of Barcelona’s street art landmarks. The video aims to express that pain we feel when we are incapable of achieving something, a reflection on what will happen in the coming months, the desperate desire to go out, wanting to do things, seeing people and not being able to. Knowing that it is physically possible but morally impossible. Art therefore becomes the temporary remedy allowing the mind to travel and free itself. The film’s ambition is also to give culture the recognition it deserves
