In August 2018, the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA) committed to a three-year strategic agreement with the prestigious Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI). Within this framework of the mentoring program, seven Hungarian brands present their collections during Milano Fashion Week SS22. The collaboration between HFDA and CNMI aims to give international visibility, prominence and acclaim to Hungarian designers with exceptional potential. Besides knowledge transfer and newcomer support, the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency provides an important international network by creating and supporting professional opportunities for talented Hungarian brands under the agency’s umbrella brand named Budapest Select. This season four Hungarian brands are displaying their collections in the fashion hub: Kata Szegedi, NINI, ZIA Budapest and ALMA.
On 24 September, there will also be the Budapest Select SS22 Special Show, a collective show with the participation of ABODI, CUKOVY, Elysian and Kata Szegedi.
ABODI discovers the ABODI family’s late friend’s, Lily Vollheimer’s impact on the designer, who met the almost 90 years old Auschwitz survivor woman when she was a small child, as Lily was a close friend of her grandfather and parents. Lily was a personality with an irresistible charm, speaking several languages, having a deep sexy voice and running a salon alwaysfull of interesting people, like ballerinas, actresses and socialites. Lily had a very particular style wearing men’s suits, light knits, white shirts, and pieces with interesting patterns and her diversified and complicated friendships cumulated into nonstop correspondences with her friends, receiving tons of letters and postcards all the time. After meeting Lily, they became friends, even the designer was 5 years old and Lily was already around 90 years old and Lily shared her memories, her colourful postcard collection and the bon-bond received from the ballerinas. The postcards became kind of travel tickets to imaginary travels and adventures, whispering in devotion destination names like Jaffa, Neptun, Cote’d’azur, Calla Agulla, Mammee bay, Sulina…
Time passed, and the vivid colours of the postcards faded, but one day they felt out from an old box and all the memories, smells and sounds came back, the taste of that bonbons and the memory of that deep voice full of intelligence and love… a story of a very special friendship and travel stories.
The SS22 collection features faded neutrals, sunset colours with burned orange, white sand shades and pop green. ABODI focused on selecting natural fabrics, linen, eco poplin, cotton and silk with butter soft ecoleather. The minimalistic silhouettes, the signature wavy cuts and the Transylvanian mythology prints compose a contemporary collection with a time traveller, nostalgic vibe. ABODI reveals a collaboration with Swarovski, adding a new dimension to the designs, creating geometric cut sheer pieces.
The upcoming collection of the Budapest based atelier was inspired by the sparkling lights of water, the blinding sunshine and the summer sky with all the lovely stars, as it was written before in a beautiful poem by the great Hungarian poet, Miklós Radnóti. This love poem, which can be found in each piece of the collection in a unique way, is the message of the atelier, a little gift to the ones who would like to find the love, harmony and beauty in life. Light sage green, silver, gold, powder pink, off-white and black are the main colours of the garments. Shiny and glittering fabrics, transparency, special embroidery, great volumes of light silk and viscose textiles make the collection eye-cathing. Elysian’s SS22 is an allegory about femininity, desire and the promise of love.
The shifting World phenomenon has planted the idea of a woman who is the explorer of her own world. Envisioning a person who is connected to both her inner and outer self. This fluid and transcendent modus vivendi set the tone for CUKOVY’s upcoming SS22 collection. Traditional office looks such as button-down shirts and suits were morphed into waterproof, lightweight puffers thus creating a contemporary yet functional look that can be worn outdoors. The colours of the season seek out for a brighter spirit that feels optimistic and full of life, colour contrasts like the combination of digital lavender and papaya orange enhance this desired mood. Last season’s monochrome psychedelic monogram print also evolved into a bold, popping and colourful artwork. Products are designed and made based on the following values: sustainability, durability and playfulness. Everything is designed and made in Hungary supporting local craftsmen and suppliers. CUKOVY only works with high-quality materials imported from Italy and premium goose down. The narrow product line includes puffer jackets, coats, vests and accessories, such as hats. With the puffers’ exchangeable elements, sleeves and hoods CUKOVY invites customers to play.
In the Spring-Summer 2022 collection just as in the previous Fall season of Kata Szegedi, the designers, Kata and Daniel Benus uses custom digital prints as the main force. The print originated from a picture shot by photographer Gergő Pejkó, who captured our statement cut-out golden pants during the first lockdown, appears in several colour options, both in sheer and heavy materials giving an interesting layering to the garments. This is another season of an ode to artisan craftmanship filled with emotional memories, meaningful flashbacks from the past 10 years. The lines, patterns were inspired by a Spanish painter-sculptor, Pablo Palazuelo’s artwork. Strict and softer lines chase each other constantly since his vision was very close to the brand’s idea of how to reinvent the looks for the upcoming year.
Moving sculptures were created again, with the statement layering, the cut-outs, and the soft blue colour palette- sky blue, klein blue- with a touch of white, OBJECTS OF DESIRE. The collection includes pieces that are strongly masculine or feminine, composed with one another haphazardly, with a strong patchwork technique within each look. This eventuality leads the collection, inspired by youth culture, young people’s street style and Pablo Palazuelo’s organic, boldly experimental forms.
