KQK Spring Summer 2022 Cemented Love / Love Cemented

Based in Thetford Mines Quebec, KQK is a creative studio for clothes and ceramics entirely handmade by a local team of artisans; the fashion collections are a meld of classic tailoring with creative techniques, the ceramics explore the boundaries of rigidity in their nature.

Very much inspired by the contrast between brutalist architecture and nature romanticized, KQK’s founder and designer Karen Quirion constantly redefines her craft through the deconstruction of shapes and the experimentation of colors and material to translate emotions.

Karen Quirion graduated in fashion design at the campus Notre-Dame de Foy in Quebec before obtaining a master’s degree in fashion communication and public relations from the Istituto Europeo di design in Milan. She debuted KQK in 2012. The collections are sold online at http://www.kqk.ca, at the atelier in Thetford Mines, her studio annex in Montreal and at DAAD in Milano.

KQK Spring/Summer 2022 Cemented Love / Love Cemented

Intricate furrowing and patchwork, handmade fabrics made of threads and leather scraps, painting and ceramic works; Karen Quirion puts her artistry and the craftmanship of KQK in full display in her newest Collection. Karen started experimenting with ceramics last fall and her works have become an integral part of the brand. The dialogue between her fashion and ceramics flows naturally and reinforces the organic language of KQK. True to its brutalist and yet romantic references, the KQK Spring/Summer 2022 Collection speaks of a cemented love and of love cemented.

Quirion juxtaposes her own paintings of human love against textures she imagines and then creates (hand-furrowed silk in black, hand-dyed denim with a cracked effect in black and grey, hand-made patchwork leather in black, hand-made fabric made of threads and leather scraps in burnt orange, beige and black, screen-printed wool in beige) and textures she imagines and then molds (a cage top, a skirt, a bra, collar and trim details, earrings and a bag made of hand[1]stitched ceramic pieces in burnt orange, silver grey and black). A celebration of love and nature encased in a hard shell capturing a feeling of darkness, KQK’s latest collection is a beautiful ode to fragile love materializing from the dichotomized mind of Karen Quirion and her team.
