Nicole Miller Fall Winter 2022 – 2023 at New York Fashion Week

NICOLE MILLER PRESENTS FALL/WINTER 2022 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION WITH A DIGITAL PRESENTATION DURING NEW YORK FASHION WEEK. The punk inspired 34-piece collection takes fans back in time to 90’s schoolgirl grunge.
Nicole Miller takes us back to school with her Fall/Winter 2022 readyto-wear collection. Presented virtually during New York Fashion Week, the digital presentation showcased 34 looks channeling goth, punk and rock vibes. The FW22 collection personifies the different personalities of the school yard girl gang including the hippie dreamer, the scholar, the rebel, the P.Y.T. bad girl and the artist. Similar to the SS22 season, the collection is set to debut digitally.
Miller shows off her creative prowess by filming the presentation at the Bushwick United Methodist Church, a 100-plus year-old church in Brooklyn, New York. Miller used the basement of the church to set the scene of a rundown classroom. The analog-like footage gives a voyeuristic look into the girls’ school life, from classroom antics, and gossip sessions to walking stylishly into detention. The digital short concludes as a shadowy scene centered around an eerie wall of vintage TVs flashing graffiti-esque Nicole Miller logos on the screens.
“This collection is a twist on the perennial naughty schoolgirl look. It unleashes the spirit of rebellion,” said Designer and Creative Director, Nicole Miller. “I gave the Y2K fashion trend a Gen Z spin by using dark colors with a mix of loud prints and soft textures to give them a sense of the naughty, but nice girl type.”
This season’s theme, “moody memories and math equations”, combines a classroom aesthetic and city chic sensibility: schoolgirl dresses, pleated miniskirts, bell bottoms, fitted vests, corset tops, and tailored blazers and oversized jackets styled with opaque knee-high socks and chunky, studded platforms. Quintessentially goth and rock, the collection palette is dark, filled with graffiti prints, pinstripe, lace and tartan plaid. Upcycled flannel shirts were made into a bustier, mini dresses and gown, with fitted tops and wide leg trousers to round out the retro, nostalgia inducing collection.
The makeup embraced the over-the-top makeup of the 90s. Using the model’s natural skin tones, beauty artists focused on creating looks for each character, with moody lips, graphic eyeshadow with heavy mascara, thick silver or black liner and bushy natural boy brows. Hair styling stuck to slicked down parted hair and braided strands. Nails were also a focal point matching the girls’ personalities including, short black chipped nails or long coffin-shaped nails.
