CEM CINAR DESIGNER BIO
Cem Cinar is a Turkish born designer who grew up in the Netherlands, and is based in Paris. Following his foundation year in Art studies at ARTEZ in Arnhem, he pursued Fashion design studies at ESMOD in Paris, during which he has done multiple internships at Rick Owens.
After his graduation within the specialisation ‘New Couture’, he landed his first job at Y/PROJECT in 2012 where he worked for 5 years, before becoming creative director at Rouge Margaux in 2017.
Currently he is creative director of ready to wear for LARUICCI. Originally a jewellery line based in New York, he is overseeing the clothing and launched their first collection in 2019.
Simultaneously while traveling and freelancing in Japan, he initiated the foundation of his eponymous label in 2020, where he had been collaborating on creative projects with local brands. With their support he partnered with traditional manufacturers to create a first capsule, which led to the launch of his full collection during SS21 season in Paris.
Produced between France, the Netherlands, Turkey and Japan, the Cem Cinar collection pieces merge masculine dress codes with refined feminine silhouettes and body conscious patterns with architectural designs, focusing on reinterpreting couture techniques.
CEM CINAR FALL WINTER 2022 COLLECTION
Inspired by the historical dress codes and colours of his dual nationality, Turkey and the Netherlands, the FW22 collection pieces range from oversized fake fur suits, to hand crocheted dresses in recycled threads, patchworks of meticulously hand crocheted laces used in shirting that have been made piece by piece over many hours before being assembled together, and open overlocked seam psychedelic spider web constructions using transparence and layering.
Cem Cinar focuses on a continuous research on finding a balance between out of body engineered pieces, incorporating geometric patterns that have been quilted and padded in order to create a 3d vibe, mixed with fitted pieces that contour and at times reveal the body.
Fabrics range from embossed technical jacquard jerseys, indigo denims, hand embroidered silks with exclusively designed patterns and embellishments, technical stretch jerseys…
COLLABORATIONS – FW22 season
introduces a partnership with Timendotes association. The Timendotes Association, based in Morocco, supports the cultural heritage of card weaving and creates new livelihood opportunities for women in rural area’s. Cem Cinar collaborated on creating custom designed Sfifa’s using this traditional technique, which have been incorporated into a part of the collection.
These artisanal pieces have been made on order one by one, reviving a centuries old technical know how within the region. Twisting the classical use of the Sfifa, Cem Cinar has reinterpreted the rich and unique heritage into contemporary and dynamic garments.
The jewellery pieces, which include a range of rings, necklaces and glasses, have been created in collaboration with LaBelRecup, a Parisian recycling store, out of antique and one of a kind metal cutlery pieces.
