New York, NY – To debut the Spring 2023 Collection, MONSE is thrilled to host a Runway Event on Thursday, September 8th, in partnership with City Harvest. The moment will serve as a fundraising opportunity for City Harvest, as 100% of ticket proceeds will go to raise money and awareness for the food insecurity that affects millions of New Yorkers.
With the generous support of American Express Platinum and Genesis Motor America, MONSE will present the collection at The Battery, who share a common goal with City Harvest of enriching and contributing to NYC communities’ health and wellness through the education of and access to readily available nutritious foods.
City Harvest began with the vision of ending hunger across the five boroughs of New York City. In addition to rescuing leftover produce from local farmers, unused ingredients and meals from wholesalers, grocery stores, and restaurants, City Harvest offers classes teaching students healthy recipes, how to grocery shop on a budget, understanding nutrition labels and more, all taught by its staff and volunteers, for free.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, City Harvest responded to the crisis by doubling the amount of food delivered to those in need as more New Yorkers were facing hunger than ever before. Through City Harvest’s fleet of 26 trucks, 160 staff members, thousands of volunteers, a Food Rescue Facility, and the kind help of many food and financial donors, the organization has rescued and delivered more than 1 billion pounds of excess food to date.
“We are immensely excited to host this event benefiting City Harvest. We are so inspired by the work they did during the pandemic and beyond and have been wanting to partner with them ever since,” say Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia. “This season made the most sense to do just that and we’re so honored to showcase the new collection at The Battery where their objectives align with ours and City Harvest’s – it truly is a celebration of community.”
The Bosque, a garden sanctuary with four acres of greenery overlooking the New York Harbor, offers a peaceful respite from the city and will serve as the idyllic scene for this event. Backed by The Battery Conservancy and its donors, the gardens act as a reminder of the Conservancy’s endeavors to restore and maintain a historical part of New York City.
Born from these efforts was the Urban Farm – an initiative created to educate, engage, and empower NYC residents on the importance of food literacy. Through this project, students, residents, and visitors learn about sustainable farming, experience organic fresh foods and foster environmental stewardship.
In commemoration of this runway event and meaningful partnership, MONSE will release two limited products inspired by the imperfect and ugly vegetables City Harvest will save from farmers and food vendors — an “Ugly Turnip” sweater that is featured during the event and a matching T-shirt.
