The Story of Leonardo 5th Avenue:
Family pioneer, Ernesto Cordero, broke ground in the fashion industry by opening Fifth Avenue Art Studio in New York City after WWII in 1946. A Navy veteran seeking to reinvent himself, he opened a shop where he combined his two passions- menswear and photography. In 1954, Ernesto moved to Puerto Rico and continued his business in San Juan.
Two decades later, his son Leonardo Cordero Ortiz, continued his father legacy and transformed the store into a specialty menswear store, leaving photography behind, and focusing in becoming the largest menswear and formalwear operator in the Caribbean under the new Leonardo Fifth Avenue label. Early 1990’s, Leonardo Fifth Avenue’s sustained growth was propelled by a base of loyal customers and an eight-store locations expansion.
In 2004, current CEO and Chief Fashion Designer, Leonardo Cordero-Suria, took full ownership of the brand and led efforts in transforming the brand into a couture and ready to wear fashion brand. During the next decade, product lines expansion and opening of new designers studios continued in the Caribbean and in Florida, with the opening of its first North America store and designer’s studio at 121 E. Welbourne Ave. in Winter Park, Florida in 2020. The new designer studio specializes in made-to-order tailored clothing, ready to wear and couture. It introduces to the market a creative way to experience top quality men’s fashion with customizable pieces, using state of the art technology that allow customers to make designs their own and showcase their personal style with the assistant of our fashion designers and stylists.
Recently, the company unveiled the introduction of new Fashion Director, Ana Sofia Cordero, after earning her fashion design degree and working experiences as a designer in Italy. She brings a more contemporary approach to tailoring overall.
Leonardo and Ana Sofia showcased for the first time their new collection BOLD at New York Fashion Week on September 9, 2022 on 608 Fifth Avenue.
They are excited to return to New York, and are expected to open studios in Miami and New York City within the next 6 months.
