For Spring Summer 2023, Maitrepierre entitled “<3”, this wardrobe is inspired by the tale of Donkey Skin and its adaptation by Jacques Demy in the 70s, mixing many references and anachronisms.
In this 17th century fiction, the characters use helicopters, read Cocteau or travel by motorboat.
This mix of different eras inspired the collection and led to new silhouettes.
Empire waistlines meet baggy pants, bombers-suit jackets interact with floral eyewear and platforms, historical dresses are shortened to become tops.
The character of Donkey Skin turns into a video game avatar in which her bag looks like a PS3 controller and her princely clothes are mixed with street wear.
This collection questions the traditional wardrobe and the notion of hybridization.
This season again, sustainability is key to the designer: dead stock silks, satins, denims and leathers, lycra and polyester in recycled fibers, natural enzymes and non-polluting inks. A local production, in France for its ready-to-wear and in Spain for the accessories.
“<3” is an invitation to rethink reality, imagine new stories, and question our dreams – a rhyme 3.0 that speaks of love.
