Blurring distinctions of surface and structure, organic and synthetic, shadow and glow, Khaite SS24 / spring/summer 2024 debuts in the soaring drill hall of new York city’s park avenue armory. In layers seen and unseen, decisive lines are braided with draped and rounded volumes. Animated by the feminine form and illuminated by beams of light that evoke a stage, the soft becomes sharp becomes soft.

Khaite SS24, Elongated silhouettes introduce unexpected proportions of enveloping ease. Boldly Formed outerwear sets the tone with strong shoulders, magnified lapels, and streamlined closures. Deliberate refinement puts the focus on exquisite materials, allowing a tucked and gathered trench to take on new dimensions in gleaming white lambskin, buttery black leather, or topstitched khaki twill. The cascading front is paired with a belted, clean-lined back, traced by a lone inverted pleat.

Fluidity and precision also come together in the interplay of reimagined peasant tops through billows of doubled gazar, while the high, nipped in waists of cigarette pants and micro-shorts extend the long lines of the season. The tiered effect is also seen in rounded shirttail hems with liminal linings, and intensifying flourishes of godets that float at supple angles. Translucency is a force of serenity and suspense, revealing dimension and construction by degrees through dynamic veiling, from the artful and strategic splicing of organza, georgette, and chiffon to the undulating folds that bracket darted waistlines.
