RAVE REVIEW SS24 at Milan Fashion Week

RAVE REVIEW SS24 / Spring Summer 2024, Swedish brand RAVE REVIEW made its debut on Milan Fashion week’s official calendar to present its SS24 collection “Leftovers Paradise” with a Runway Show.

Sustainability front runner Swedish fashion label, RAVE REVIEW, made their debut on Milan Fashion week’s official calendar, closing the physical show calendar just before the CNMI sustainable awards.

RAVE REVIEW SS24 / Spring Summer 2024 collection was presented on a patchwork catwalk of flowery and checked carpets, the first looks are accompanied alongside a noisy shoegaze take on “Take My Breath Away”, followed by a Nirvana cover of Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights”, creating a grungy atmosphere, and stirred up romantic emotions.

Leftovers Paradise – SS24 COLLECTION

Rave Review found their inspiration from rustic-ness, kitschy romance, punk, and grunge. Usually known for their saturated color combinations and eclectic print clashes, this season sees an evolution of the design duo’s aesthetics, introducing a more settled palette of monochrome white looks, bleached flowers, distressed denim, brown tartans, and black leather.

Continuing their exploration of old craftsmanship, heritage, and how to put vintage textiles into a new light and context, their inspiration manifests in details such as the torn asymmetric lace patches, burned ditsy flower bed sheets and stud details.

“We’re exploring craftsmanship in a naïve way. Distorted patchwork, raw edges that we burned and hand-embroidered swans. Craft gone wrong, basically.”

The duo behind the brand, Josephine Bergqvist and Livia Schuck, decided to embrace their hoarding and create a collection of what they already had on hand.

“As we’ve bought most of our secondhand materials from sorting facilities in Sweden and Scotland, we’ve accumulated a large collection over the years. We’ve stored all the fabrics and home textiles we didn’t use in previous seasons, resulting in an impressive inventory. For RAVE REVIEW SS24, it was a necessary but also fun challenge of mostly using these fabrics, with only minimal deadstock materials sourced anew. As a designer, the limits of available resources often inspire more creativity than having boundless freedom.”

Among things in the lineup they’ve presented new variations of their iconic blanket coat, flared asymmetric dresses and a few short spiral cut summer dresses and ruffled blouses. An overall detail coming back throughout the collection is the patchwork cuts and various looks made entirely from white bed linen and lace curtains.

“We love to include a mix of both the perfectly white bed linen, but also the older more yellow ones, – it shows how time sets a mark which we find so beautiful and nostalgic. What we ultimately aim for is to twist and turn history into something new.”
