The Earth is the cradle of Humanity. But one doesn’t always live in the cradle. —Constantin Tsiolkovski

Starlink, Clara Daguin’s Spring Summer 2024 collection, takes us into the archetypal world of space flight. We set out to discover our stratosphere, in search of planets and civilizations superior to our own, inhabited by hope, in a metaphysical and spiritual impulse.

We soar through the cosmos among dazzling stars, whirling in the cosmic night, only to be confronted by our satellite trains and space debris – our unsettling material reality. We don’t need another world, “we need mirrors “* as one world – our own – is enough for us. We are ultimately only in search of an ideal image of our own humanity. For us, space is the territory of dreams and a place of contradictions. *Stanisław Lem, Solaris

As with each of her creations, Clara Daguin’s exploration brings together intellectual meditation and innovative craftsmanship. The collection’s sensual, luminous garments reflect the world around us. They don’t look to an imagined, fantasized future, but to the present, which is right here beside us. These clothes are our mirrors.

On January 27, Clara Daguin invites you to Atelier Basfroi (Paris 11) to experience the scientific documentation of these cosmic fragments collected during a mission. Around the photographic stage, guests – as if breaking into this artistic laboratory – wander discreetly and observe the process of shooting, of backstage beauty preparations and the steps inherent to constructing a photo series.

The backdrop is Astre, a monumental interactive embroidery scintillating with the constellations of our galaxy. And in front of this luminous tapisserie silhouettes come and go, like miniature stars; satellites brought down to earth. In the porthole overlooking this scene, the visitors can see the “Space Trash” dress – a sensual machine smashed into the beyond. It’s a landscape of shattered steel, violence and metallic beauty.

The opening look of Clara Daguin Starlink Spring Summer 2024 Collection is a corseted cotton velvet dress, hand painted in bleach for a nebulous effect, then embroidered with micro-leds, gently pulsating like a luminous breath.

Follows a series of “satellite train” looks, illuminated by lines of micro-leds, contouring and accentuating each silhouette; a suit jacket with a trompe l’oeil corset, a corseted dress with architectural sleeves, a globular jacket, an ensemble (top and skirt) laced with satin ribbons, a transparent ensemble in tight-fitting jersey, and a “black hole” dress in technical fabric.

For the finale of Clara Daguin Starlink Spring Summer 2024 Collection, the Space Trash dress: a complex mix of glass beads, fragmented and embroidered cast resin. Around it gravitate beaded and metal embroideries.

About Clara Daguin

Creator Clara Daguin was born in France and grew up in California’s Silicon Valley. Fittingly, her approach draws from both of these formative contexts: a mix of savoir-faire and technology, embroidery and electronics, the organic and the artificial. She uses fashion as a vector  for examining how technology evolves alongside the body, engaging with present circumstances and future realities: digitalization, dematerialization, surveillance.

Using light as a material, she leans into the esoteric: conjuring up energies and flows, externalizing our invisible infrastructures, and alluding to the way our anatomies secretly operate beneath our clothes.

Clara Daguin created her eponymous label in 2017 after her participation in the Hyères International Fashion Festival. In addition to her own designs, she collaborates with artists, researchers and institutions — Google, Baccarat, DRESSX, Jean-Paul Goude, Hermès, Première Vision, IFTH, Mines Paris Tech.

In 2023 she is the winner of the Grand Prix de la Création de la ville de Paris in the Fashion category, and goes on to win the Innovation Prize alongside the label Fabriqué à Paris.
