FETICO Fall/Winter 2024 – 2025 / FW24 at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo entitled Eternal Favorites
INSPIRATIONS OF FETICO FALL/WINTER 2024 – 2025
The FETICO Fall/Winter 2024 – 2025 collection encapsulates designer Emi Funayama’s instinctive interests. Velvet dresses she adored in her adolescence, children’s clothes accentuated with lace and frills, Victorian gothic-style interior design, monochromatic art, fetish aesthetic – all create the basis of her craft, with Funayama referring to them as “something I always love”.
The Addams Family (1991) was the inspiration behind this season, with glimpses of the dark and unique character of Wednesday Addams, the intricate yet sinister stories and Broadway musical Dracula by American writer Edward Gorey, and the erotic and eerie dolls created by German artist Hans Bellmer seen throughout the Fetico FW24 collection. The corrupt and ironic, dark and sadistic nature of such subjects continue to captivate people to this day.
“When I saw The Addams Family as a child, Wednesday was fascinating to me because she was so different from the usual ‘pretty’ girls. Albeit being cynical and pessimistic, I found her fearlessness and eccentricity to be truly charming. She taught me to not be afraid of being different from other people.
Embracing the things you love equates to being able to love yourself. You can love yourself more when you are enjoying the things you love without caring about what others think. This is what I think is true happiness”.
The latest FETICO FW24 collection embodies Funayama’s aesthetic and values creating silhouettes that accentuate the female body. The designer hopes that these clothes will be someone’s “Eternal Favorites”.
DETAILS OF FETICO FALL/WINTER 2024 – 2025
This FETICO FW24 collection is based on the fabrics and accessories that Funayama adores, whilst incorporating essences from her inspiration sources. The color palette is monochromatic, and composed in a calm tone of brown, bordeaux and light blue.
The cross-like cut out design is reminiscent of gothic styles, and is used in the neckline of dresses, on the sides of trousers, and on the sleeves and backs of denim jackets and bodysuits. This unique design is morphed into a floral silhouette, featured in tops and dresses.
Velvet is the main character this FETICO FW24 collection, used in frilled jackets and dresses, gothic embroidered bustiers and skirts, and giving off an elegant yet strong presence. This velvet, crafted in Sabae City from Fukui, is comprised of Cupra made from cotton flower, and rayon recycled fiber made from wood pulp. The lightweight fabric can create airy and elegant draping with a matte finish.
The whole garment knits are inspired by the wallpaper from the Victorian houses featured in the picture books of Edward Gorey. Bodysuits, jumpsuits, socks and gloves gently embrace the skin, and can be easily layered with other pieces, expanding one’s wardrobe.
Wednesday’s style from The Addams Family is most represented in the large white collars. Puff sleeved shirts accentuated with such collars come in a superior cotton satin and satin crepe with floral embossing. Navy colored wool coats use fabric “Super110” by wool maker PECOLAMB, woven and died in Bishu, Aichi. The quilted coat with a shearling collar is made from sustainable and high function padding, and comes in fake leather and nylon. Matching bustier/bra and skirt sets are also offered.
Tailored pieces are a specialty of FETICO. Embroidered sailor jackets using an original Merino wool gabardine, short tailored capes, bowtie knit jackets are just a few that make an appearance this season – FETICO FW24.
The iconic lingerie-esque details appear as corset inspired designs and featured in many pieces this season. Tulle baby doll blouses, négligée-like camisole dresses, shirred gauze dresses all give a romantic feeling to the FETICO FW24 collection.
