Rabanne joins forces with Art Basel and unveils the Rabanne Arts Factory to empower a new generation of digital creators

• Maison Rabanne partners with Art Basel to give the next generation of digital artists a global platform to showcase their art

• Chaired by Julien Dossena, The Arts Factory jury is comprised of international experts from the art world. At Art Basel, Basel they will announce their six finalists before the final winner is revealed at Art Basel Miami Beach in December.

For 60 years, art has been an integral part of the Rabanne mission to galvanize a more visionary, creative and inclusive future. To embody and evolve this commitment, Rabanne launched an ambitious global program dedicated to amplifying the next generation of under-represented digital image-makers through the unique lens of their art.

Following a call for entries in January 2024, made with the support of Dazed, participants were asked to “visualize new realities”. To give this prize all the visibility it deserves, Rabanne has forged an unprecedented partnership with Art Basel, the world’s most renowned contemporary art fair, to celebrate the talent of these young artists and offer them an internationally recognised stage. This collaboration is positioned at the crossroads of art and design, enabling unique creations to emerge in an era where the hybridization of disciplines is becoming more and more prevalent.

To select the best projects, the Rabanne Arts Factory has brought together a jury of international experts from the worlds of fashion and art, chaired by Julien Dossena, Artistic Director of the House, alongside Jefferson Hack, founder of Dazed Media; Venus Lau, curator and writer; and Claude Adjil, curator. Bridget Finn, Director of Art Basel Miami Beach, will also be involved as a mentor.

The jury will announce the following six winners, selected from three world-renowned art schools (Central Saint Martins in London, Ecole Duperré in Paris and Istituto Marangoni in Florence) as well as from Dazed Club and Community:

• Buse Simon, UK

• Alice Bucknell, USA

• Elizabeth O’Brien, UK

• Lorenzo Risani, Italy

• Lucy Ellis, UK

• Lola Moniz, France

To celebrate this selection, The Rabanne Arts Factory jury will be meeting on 12th June at the Art Basel fair in Basel for a panel discussion entitled ‘The Rabanne Arts Factory: Opening Spaces for New Imagery’, moderated by Clément Delépine, Director of Art Basel Paris. During this discussion led by Julien Dossena and Jefferson Hack, the jury will discuss the importance of this new generation of digital artists and the mission that The Rabanne Arts Factory has set itself to contribute to their artistic development.

The final winner, to be announced in fall, will receive support at different stages of their creative career through a global approach that includes mentoring with Rabanne executives, visibility, image creation and financial support for the creation of their work. They will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Art Basel fair in Miami Beach (December 6th_8th).

‘Art has always been at the heart of the Rabanne DNA. This project builds on that legacy by celebrating and empowering a new way of creating imagery in the digital space. In doing so, it will both pay homage to and reinvent the brand´s heritage.’ – Vincent Thilloy, CBO, Rabanne.

ABOUT RABANNE

An innovative fashion house as singular today as when it was founded in 1966, Rabanne stands out for unifying an avant-garde vision with modern values. Since the earliest collections through the 1960s and ‘70s, the Paris-based brand has explored ideas of radical craft—from the use of metal mesh as fabric that contours the body, to assemblages of unconventional materials that create kinetic silhouettes. Worn by the likes of Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, Françoise Hardy, and Audrey Hepburn, Mr. Rabanne’s daring designs became iconic and identifiable. They signaled an evolving, liberated expression of femininity—one that subverted traditional codes while appearing effortless in attitude.

With the arrival of Julien Dossena as artistic director in 2013, the house became infused with a youthful vibrancy reflected in his eclectic references and inspired creation. Through ongoing collaborations with established artistic talents such as Marie-Amelie Sauvé, Marc Ascoli and Peter Saville, Rabanne takes a dynamic view of its archives and an inclusive approach to its community. Beyond its retail network, the brand has developed a strong digital presence — both through the web site and with online vendors — which has allowed a new generation to discover how the heritage of Paco Rabanne remains consistently in step with the times.
