Arturo Obegero SS25 / Spring Summer 2025 at Paris Fashion Week
EL AMOR BRUJO, A COLLECTION BY ARTURO OBEGERO.
With this new Arturo Obegero SS25 / Spring Summer 2025
collection, Arturo Obegero is paying tribute to the revolutionary 1924 ballet by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. It celebrates Spanish folklore, from flamenco to a matador’s suit of light, and is an ode to the work of his creative heroes, couturiers Cristóbal Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent, director Carlos Saura, photographers Ruvén Afanador and Vivianne Sassen, dancer Antonio Gades and multifaceted-artist Serge Lutens.
“I launched my brand in 2020 and with this 10th collection, entirely created on iPad, I wanted to continue developing and affirming my brand’s minimal-drama vision. These silhouettes are quintessentially AO as I’ve been working on them for almost ten years now.”
“AO is for individuals who seek craftsmanship, sensuality and a fanciful je-ne-sais-quoi that stands out without screaming, and for those special moments in the spotlights, on the red carpet or the stage where power dressing meets vulnerability. From sleek and figure-hugging to extravagant volumes, I drape fabrics around the body with my own idea of verve and sophistication.”
A STUDY OF CRAFTSMANSHIP AND EXALTATION OF VARIOUS SAVOIR-FAIRE. DETAILS OF ARTURO OBEGERO SS25 / SPRING SUMMER 2025 :
TAILORING
Sharp and intentional tailoring remains at the core of the brand’s ethos. Signature AO silhouettes are revisited in technical jerseys and upcycled theatre velvet curtains. Wardrobe staples – trench coat, double-breasted suit, dress shirt, and high waisted trousers – are upgraded for a sleeker and younger look.
LACEMAKING
Lacemaking is an essential métier d’art of the AO world, supported by French century-old manufacturer Sophie Hallette.
The fabric is used to convey a modern idea of sensuality, from the second-skin gloved Lutens top to the asymmetric fluid Lucia lingerie dress and the matador-inspired Afanador trousers. Lace adds a touch of romance to the silk organza trompe l’oeil flamenco punk Candela jumpsuit, the Fatal bomber jacket and its opulent yet cosy scarf.
Challenging the fabric by turning it into the sculptural Sophie top that creates swirling flames of love around the body and by treating it with silicone at the hands of Matisse di Maggio for the Magma dress.
EMBROIDERY
AO collaborated with a traditional atelier in India to create the moiré and flame embroideries, expanding our wearable haute couture vision.
Matte and shiny tube beads create the moiré motif adorning the front of the red high waisted Gades trousers and the front of the black sleeveless roll neck, totalling 250 hours and 200 hours of hand stitching, respectively.
Cotton lurex threads create a texture symbolising burning love for the matching top, floor-sweeping high waisted skirt and high waisted trousers, with each garment each requiring around 200 hours of handwork.
As a favourite signature detail, gloves and bodysuits are embroidered with crystal drops on their fingertips.
PLUMASSIER (FEATHERWORK)
AO collaborated with Maison Février, a Paris-based feather specialist since 1929, on the sleek and formal black Zendaya gown revealing a dramatic backless dance of flames growing from the skin.
KNITWEAR
A cosy trompe l’oeil moiré motif is created with silk and viscose lurex for the oversize cardigan.
EL AMOR BRUJO’S DESIGN STORY EXPANDS INTO ACCESSORIES. ACCESSORIES OF DETAILS OF ARTURO OBEGERO SS25 / SPRING SUMMER 2025 :
HEADPIECES
After collaborating on projects for Beyoncé, AO and Paris-based milliner Coco Lucquiard are introducing two new handcrafted AO headpieces, in red moiré and black velvet, inspired by Spanish peineta combs, and thought as the flamenco version of the Dune universe’s Bene Gesserit headpieces.
CORSET
AO and Paris-based leather goods artisan Yamil Farah collaborated on the burgundy Thorax corset, made with detachable belts in leather covered by upcycled theatre velvet curtains and connected by a spine. It plays with the idea of a constrictive feeling of love and the arousal from bondage fetishism.
GRILLZ
AO and Dolly Cohen, jeweller to the artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, and Pharrell to name a few, collaborated on the pair of silver grillz made in Paris. Shaped as a rose held between one’s teeth, the trompe l’oeil effect is the perfect way for the unexpected and fun take on an iconic piece of jewellery, with the AO aesthetic.
A FASHION FILM BY ARTURO OBEGERO.
Directed by Kelly Chan Wing Kiu and entirely shot on iPhone, the fashion film celebrating the collection is an ode to the contemporary creative process as well as an homage to the late Carlos Saura. The story is led by Arturo as the guardian of secret who influences the destinies of four troubled souls, through his creations.
Collaborating with an international team of talents including cinematographer Safran Lecuivre, choreographer and movement director Leonardo D’Aquino, editor Adrian Lam, and Hidden Mountain Sound Studio, the film is a theatrical behind-the-scenes rendition of the making of the collection and the director’s longest project to date. It stands out for its deep focus on craftsmanship, offering viewers a rich, theatrical experience.
