On the centenary of surrealism clara colette miramon debuts her first runway show paying tribute to the often overlooked surrealist women, drawing inspiration from three iconic figures who heavily influenced the movement while living in 1930s Paris: Dorothea Tanning, Meret Oppenheim, and Leonor Fini. The starting point is their outrageous personalities and the mixture of beauty and terror underlying their works.

Dreams and distortions are the epicenter of their artistic production. Tanning’s soft sculptures provocatively explore femininity, finding echoes in garments lined with trimmed faux fur, crafted from printed mesh. The padded skeleton look, a reinterpretation of a dress made for Elsa Schiaparelli by Oppenheim, evolved from her sculpture work. The presence of rat imagery throughout clara colette miramon SS25 / Spring Summer 2025 collection – in prints and embroidery – draws from Fini’s fascination with taxidermy, transforming an animal often deemed repulsive into an object of beauty.

On the runway, Miramon shows a dichotomy of femininity through the figures of the “virgin” and the “rat girl.” The former embodies purity and innocence, dreaming of a rebellious world, whereas the latter exudes glamour, strength, and confidence. This duality is portrayed using layers of organza draped over denim, creating a dreamlike veil that blurs the lines of reality. The designs juxtapose ruffles with structured corsets and suits, further exploring this tension. The organza fabrics create a veiled appearance over the denim.

A standout piece is a dress made entirely of boxing gloves, reminiscent of Tanning’s soft bodily sculptures. It highlights the contrast between softness and the aggression inherent in boxing, underscoring the collection’s exploration of feminine strength. In the collection corsets and cutouts mould the female figure in a rigid manner in contrast to the softness of the fabrics.

The prints in the collection, developed in collaboration with visual artist Camille Soulat, evoke girlhood through the lens of boxing imagery. Soulat’s work captures the moment of impact in a punch, distorting facial features and symbolizing the raw power and resilience of the “rat girls,” who stand as emblems of friendship and sisterhood. These prints, combined with the structural elements of corsets and cutouts, explore different ways of strength and femininity.

The essence of the clara colette miramon woman emerges clearly: it’s a blend of sexiness, liberation, and empowerment. It’s the exploration of femininity, female sexuality and friendship. It is the representation of the paradoxes of being a woman, grappling with the contrasts between purity and rebellion, and the nuanced perceptions of femininity.

About Clara Colette Miramon

In 2021, Clara Colette Miramon founded her eponymous label in Berlin and is among this season’s winners at Berlin Contemporary.

Her fashion drive is to empower women with more self-confidence by strengthening their own body awareness. The young designer has already garnered an international fanbase, with rap stars like Doja Cat and Kali Uchis donning her creations.

Miramon has always found inspiration in her own childhood memories, coming-of-age stories, and subcultures. For her highly sensual looks, she skillfully intertwines traditional techniques, historical cuts, and materials with contemporary pop culture.

Simultaneously, she questions and explores the traditional role of women while celebrating female sexuality. Specializing in corsets, which are sometimes reconstructed, reinterpreted, or made from unconventional materials like denim, her designs are often highly figure-hugging and range from slim leggings and miniskirts to abstract dresses with what she calls “strategic” cut-outs.

Sustainability is also a top priority for her: all her designs are created according to the made-to-order principle, and 80 percent of the materials used are recycled.
