Nicklas Skovgaard Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 at Copenhagen Fashion Week presents Collection 09
Thematics :
The Theme for Collection 09 is the life of Nicklas Skovgaards’ mother, Annie, when she was at the age of 30. This theme draws inspiration from a spectrum of personal memories, perspectives and from old photography portraying this period of time around 1994 and the years leading up to it. Nicklas Skovgaard Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 collection investigates different ways of dressing through looking at old photography and video-recordings of Annie in these years prior to and after the birth of her son. Exploring through old photography and conversations how she would dress for her vacation, when she went to teach aerobics at the local gym, when she went for a casual everyday dinner or seeing how she would dress when going to a party.
“This year marks the year I will turn 30 myself. I think that’s why I felt a strong connection to looking at old imagery of my mother when she was at the same age. It make me think about what she was thinking of, how she was feeling, what was she dreaming about? When looking at these images I see her dressed either super sporty or super formal. They hold a fun contrast, that why I thought it would be interesting to re-create and merge some of these looks.”
Through working with juxtaposed fabrications, unexpected cuts and silhouettes Nicklas Skovgaard SS25 collection and its techniques also draw inspiration from the art of Trompe L’oeil paintings.
Specifically a series of paintings from the 17th century by Dutch painter Cornelius Norbertus Gijsbrechts. Nicklas Skovgaard Spring/Summer 2025 collection centers around working with the technique of Trompe L’oeil by layering different garments on top of each other, but keeping the final pieces as one single piece. This is also a technique that is incorporated into Nicklas Skovgaard SS25 collection by layering different fabrications on top of each other.
