Federico Cina Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 at Milan Fashion Week entitled “LA GINESTRA”
Imagine a landscape where the world turns yellow. Before summer arrives in Sarsina, Federico’s hometown, the broom flowers bloom. The yellow spreads across the paths, roads, and grassy slopes. Their bright blossoms stretch as far as the eye can see, like a golden sea under the sun. The air smells of earth and wildflowers, and the breeze gently caresses the broom flowers, making them sway as if the wind itself was dancing with them. The sky joins the vibrant yellow of the flowers in an embrace of light.
Rocks jut out from the ground of this floral kingdom. The broom flowers wrap around them, their delicate petals contrasting with the hardness of the stone, showing that beauty can bloom where everything seems barren. Among the bushes, green and yellow blend in a harmony that feels eternal. Federico sought to capture the essence of the broom flower, a symbol of softness and resilience. The contrast between its fragile appearance and its ability to survive in the most inhospitable places becomes the heart of Federico Cina SS25 collection.
The garments alternate between rigid, structured lines and fluid, light silhouettes, evoking both the strength of the plant and the grace of its flower as it moves gently in the wind. Each piece tells the story of those broom flowers that, despite the rocky, arid soil, have the strength to grow. The color palette of Federico Cina Spring/Summer 2025 is an homage to this world: the bright yellow of the flower, the black and gray of rock, and the green of the bushes that creep between the stones.
The broom flower also features in Giacomo Leopardi’s final poem. His brooms grow after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, after the lava wipes everything out. Nothing survives, except for this shrub that reblooms on its slopes before any other form of life. Leopardi uses the broom to reflect on the human condition and the ability to face the difficulties we encounter throughout life. Federico uses it as a metaphor for the present, a symbol of fragility and the ability to bloom again, even in the most challenging situations.
Interwoven with these reflections is the figure of Loie Fuller, famous for revolutionizing the world of dance with her fluid and innovative movements. Her work becomes central to Federico Cina Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 collection, and the photographic sequences of her performances evoke forms reminiscent of the broom flower itself: wide pleated skirts, balloon dresses, and applied fringes give rise to organic silhouettes that transform and shift through space and time, responding to the movements of the body. Loie Fuller embodies the symbol of strength that Federico sought to convey in his collection. Like the broom, which blooms with tenacity in the most barren and inhospitable lands, Fuller emerges and transforms difficulties into art. Her fluid dance, wrapped in light fabrics that float like petals, reflects the same duality of the flower: resilience and delicacy, power and poetry.
In Federico Cina Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 collection, the first presented at Milan Fashion Week, Federico unites the figures of the woman and the broom flower in a single vision. Both represent symbols of tenacity and fragile beauty. The collaboration with UMBRO introduces a foray into sportswear, another novel aspect of this season, with the integration of technical materials and fabrics into the collection. Both born with a strong sense of attachment to their roots, these two entities embrace the values of tradition, authenticity, and innovation. While FEDERICO CINA brings a personal narrative and a tailored approach, UMBRO contributes its wealth of experience related to performance and movement. The merging of these two visions highlights their respective identities, creating a synergy capable of reinterpreting the concept of sportswear, making it refined and inclusive.
