Monique Fei Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 during Paris Fashion Week

Monique Fei is a designer working in the intersection of craft and couture. She graduated in 2022 from a Bachelor in Textile Design, specialising in Knitwear at Central Saint Martins. History and stories are essential to Monique’s practice. She transforms traditional shapes and techniques to create wearable sculptures that interrogate their own material and making process.

Whilst living in Shanghai, she met a community of Ayis-elder active, independent and powerful women – who transmitted her a passion for yarns, stitches and especially crochet. These teachings transformed her making process, and after receiving a training in latex from Lupae, she sought to combine the two mediums, subverting both the traditional and contemporary to create powerful unique works that blend craft, function, and fashion. She is interested in questions of sustainability and aesthetics, using unconventional materials such as wild rubber, lint and dog hair, and revealing the minutiae of the making process. Each piece, must, by virtue of the material, be created by hand.
