Off-White™ & BSTROY™ Sneaker Just Launched. New limited-edition Off-White™ c/o BSTROY™ “OUT OF OFFICE” sneaker nods to technology and wears the design process on its sleeve.
Milan, 10 December 2024 — Off-White™ celebrates its foundational belief in progressive creativity with the release of the limited-edition Off-White™ c/o BSTROY™ “OUT OF OFFICE” sneaker.
The first collaboration between Off-White™ and BSTROY™ manifests in the silhouette of the late Virgil Abloh’s iconic “OUT OF OFFICE” sneaker, originally designed in 2020 as a homage to out-of-the-box thinking and the power of creativity to inspire a brighter future. To create this limited edition style, BSTROY™ collaborated with Off-White™ Creative Director IB Kamara, who is always looking for new creative talent to share their vision for the famed “OOO” canvas.
BSTROY™ — founded in 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia — exudes a futuristic punk energy using color, distortion and destruction to create designs that inspire hope for a new horizon beyond the mundane. Founders Brick and Dieter “Du” Grams were close friends and frequent collaborators of Abloh’s. Before Abloh took his “OOO” status and transcended physical space, Abloh, Du and Brick kept a group thread where they shared a stream of ideas, back and forth. It is from this exchange that the limited-edition Off-White™ c/o BSTROY™ “OUT OF OFFICE” sneaker design emerged.
To an old smartphone text in which BSTROY™ sent Abloh a photo of a potential pop-up location in Atlanta, Abloh responded in a signature manner: by taking a screenshot of the image and marking it up with finger sketches. It featured a pink arrow leading from electrical scooters in front of the building to Du’s 40th anniversary Porsche 911 parked nearby.
The exact arrow from Abloh’s electronic finger drawing was used in the design of the Off-White™ c/o BSTROY™ “OUT OF OFFICE” sneaker, with the pink sketched symbol replacing the shoe’s usual leather arrow overlay, bringing Abloh’s hands into the design and proving that great ideas don’t require fancy tools.
The rudimentary yet beautiful motif pushes and pulls along the seams of the shoe, sometimes walking the border, and other times intentionally coloring outside the lines. The sneaker inspired by Abloh’s photo sketch comes in silver-blue-green with black accents and the pink arrow; the second colorway reflects BSTROY™ and Abloh’s shared love for the Porsche 911, featuring a white upper, mostly covered by a silver-black motif with lines mirroring those of the aerodynamic car, plus the iconic pink arrow.
Off-White™ and BSTROY™ are celebrating the sneaker’s release with a private in-store event on December 10, 2024, at the Off-White™ EM PTY Gallery at 51 Mercer Street in New York, which will showcase the shoes alongside additional BSTROY™ designs.
