Rochas Pre-Fall 2025 / PF25 at Paris Fashion entitled IRRESISTIBLE LIFE
Elegance is what comes from an educated mind, Looking elegant and feminine isn’t the bottom line; it’s the door opener. – Hélène Rochas
What is education? An attitude, a thirst, a personal journey. Education, one might say, is life itself, as it enables us to experience and experiment, to love and to suffer, to feel deeply, to discover who we are, and to articulate our authentic selves to the world. Hélène Rochas lived her life as an irresistible quest, an ever-lasting lesson allowing her to steer her path in the direction she desired.
In researching the history of Maison Rochas, Alessandro Vigilante could but fall in love with this extraordinary woman, whose story shapes up as a fairy tale: the beautiful girl discovered by the grand couturier in the Paris Métro, hurled from the Opéra to the crème of cosmopolitan society. However, Vigilante decided to delve deeper and discovered the woman behind the myth, becoming enamoured with the many identities she took on throughout her life: model, wife, mother and then also savvy businesswoman the first female CEO in France art collector, hostess, bonne vivante, trendsetter, lover. Vigilante’s research translated into an ideal homage, infused with the so-called Hélène Factor’, strong as ungraspable, and inspired by portraits of Hélène, from the 1947 painting by surrealist artist Leonor Fini or the 1974 portrait by Andy Warhol, to intimate shots of her at work, posing in her homes and offices in Paris and New York.
Carefully moulded silhouettes, round and billowing volumes, airy fabrics and evocative patterns: the Rochas Pre-Fall 2025 – 2026 collection weaves a narrative through attires that echo defining moments in the life of la Belle Hélène, the sophisticated woman personifying the strong, uncompromising femininity Rochas caters to. The collection infuses the everyday with extraordinary pieces, enlivened by the movements and by the body of their wearer, whose personality turns clothes into fashion.
Details of Rochas Pre-Fall 2025 / PF25, Femininity as a multifaceted experience, that can be worn in many ways: layering, playing with proportions, matching motifs to exude nonchalance and confidence. Vigilante designs garments to be endlessly reimagined, communicating something new with each wear. All references Hélène’s evolving style, above all the unique materials developed to honour the storied legacy of the Maison, marking the beginning of its centenary, a stretch brocade blooming with whimsical flowers in opaque lurex thread, a jacquard tweed updating a classic 1950s motif and shaping crisp, puffed leopard spots; severe bouclés imbued with playful exuberance through shimmering sequins, and polka dots, printed on an ethereal cerulean silk chiffon, blurring into soft contrasts against the skin.
The interplay between the bare skin and the fabric becomes central in the lingerie-inspired pieces, nods to the guêpière that became a hallmark of Marcel Rochas’ couture and a way to revere to lace as one of the Maison’s most enduring codes. Indeed, a daring rebrodé clads a pair of fluid trousers, as a cascade of wine-coloured flowers on a cream base, while antique lace details smooth the look of simple slip dresses and blouses, often forming a bow gracing hemlines and peeking out of heavier, more architectural pieces.
Rochas Pre-Fall 2025 / PF25 collection counts elements borrowed from traditional men’s tailoring, though enmeshed with an utterly feminine flair: a lightweight mirage grey wool mellowed by a wafer-coloured pinstripe, used for suiting, paired either with fluid chemises or dramatic tops with round sleeves and statement neck bows; the blazers, whose stern aplomb is tempered by blousy sleeves, reminiscent of 18th-century men’s shirts, or lightened through sapient cuts and gentle folds, suits and an ample trench coat in black and white chevron revealed as a trompe-l’Å“il print on cotton moiré and a Melton wool peacoat, reimagined as an indulgent hug in a fiery red wool, whose ‘violence’, Hélène herself used to say, ‘refreshed her”.
The palette embraces vivid hues, such as bright scarlet, matte rose, deep winery purple, and balanced by suave wafer, powdery sky cerulean, and slate grey tones, or enhanced by textured onyx black. Porcelain white is present too namely, in simple knit mohair tops with rich, blossoming cuffs. to recall Hélène’s love for flowers, which she wanted always rigorously white, as she believed their scent was ‘more pungent, purer.
The scent, the essence, of Hélène Rochas the original Femme, the Madame Rochas par excellence permeates the collection, celebrating the resilience of her elegance, reinterpreted for the contemporary woman who wants to leave a mark of unconventional sophistication wherever she is.
