Honoring 75 Years of Friendship Indonesia with France in Jakarta at the Museum Nasional Indonesia, An Expression of Indonesian Creativity and Craftsmanship.
Jakarta, 28 May 2025 — In a remarkable celebration of art, culture, and international friendship, Didit Hediprasetyo Foundation proudly presents L’Art Botanique du Paradis, an immersive exhibition of interior design, fashion, and contemporary art by Indonesia’s finest artists and designers. The exhibition marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, held in conjunction with the state visit of President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron to Indonesia.

Staged at the Museum Nasional Indonesia, this one-of-a-kind exhibition transforms the historic venue into five distinct, artistically curated rooms that showcase Indonesia’s diverse craftsmanship, botanical richness, and design sensibilities. Each room reflects a poetic narrative shaped by the country’s cultural and natural heritage—through textiles, fashion, interior design, sculpture, and fine art. Tenun Rosé Lounge by Vivianne Faye offers a romantic tribute to the artistry of songket weaving, where tradition is wrapped in warmth, femininity, and joyful elegance. In Tropical Tranquil, Roland Adam creates a serene encounter between nature and history, where tropical foliage meets sacred stone in quiet harmony. The Wastra by Joke Roos is a contemporary homage to batik, bridging heritage and modernity through texture, rhythm, and restraint. The Soul Gallery, designed by Prasetio Budhi, presents a dark, introspective space where ancestral forms and modern art reflect the depth of Indonesia’s cultural soul. Lastly, Amalya Hasibuan’s Whispers of the Tropic invites visitors into a poetic dialogue between art and landscape, where nature softens memory and design breathes in stillness.
These rooms are brought to life through a fusion of batik and tenun textiles, artisanal furniture, and rare artefacts curated from across the Indonesian archipelago—offering an immersive and contemporary take on Indonesia’s past, present, and future. Complementing these elements, select rooms also feature privately owned objects and homewares by iconic French maisons such as Hermès and Louis Vuitton, symbolizing the refined intersection of Indonesian and French aesthetics.
Interwoven throughout the exhibition are contributions from several of Indonesia’s leading design voices—Auguste Soesastro, Stella Rissa, Lakon, Tangan, Asha Darra, Mel Ahyar, TOTON, Baha Gia, Oscar Lawalata Culture, BIYAN, Wilsen Willim, Edward Hutabarat, Heaven Tanudiredja, and Sapto Djojokartiko. Their work can be seen throughout the exhibition, which subtly reinforces the country’s evolving narrative of style and cultural expression.
“This exhibition is our heartfelt tribute to Indonesia’s artisans and to the cultural bridge we have nurtured with France for 75 years,” said Didit Hediprasetyo, founder of Didit Hediprasetyo Foundation. “It is an invitation to experience Indonesia’s spirit through spaces that breathe art, design, and tradition.”
The exhibition is also supported by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, which recognizes the vital role of cultural diplomacy. “Indonesia is a land of stories—told not only through words, but through design, textiles, and tradition. This exhibition offers a glimpse into the beauty and depth that await visitors to our archipelago. As we welcome our French friends, we are proud to share this expression of our culture and hospitality,” said Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana.
As a key supporter, InJourney highlights its commitment to promoting Indonesia’s cultural identity on the global stage. “L’Art Botanique du Paradis is a vivid expression of Indonesia’s creative soul and artisanal heritage. We are honored to present this to the visiting French delegation and distinguished guests as a reflection of our cultural richness—showcasing the depth, beauty, and ingenuity of Indonesian craftsmanship in the spirit of friendship and exchange,” said Maya Watono, Director of Marketing of InJourney.
Hosting the exhibition at the Museum Nasional Indonesia amplifies the narrative of legacy and continuity. “We are honored to host L’Art Botanique du Paradis in our historic halls. It is a beautiful reminder that cultural dialogue can flourish across borders through design, craft, and creativity.”
This collaborative endeavor not only symbolizes the flourishing relationship between two nations but also underscores the role of design and art in storytelling, identity, and diplomacy. L’Art Botanique du Paradis opens to the public on 29 May 2025 at Museum Nasional Indonesia, Jakarta, and will remain on view for a limited period.
