Issey Miyake Exhibition Present IM MEN Dancing Texture. Announcing the special exhibition “DANCING TEXTURE”.

IM MEN, the menswear brand from ISSEY MIYAKE, presents a special exhibition DANCING TEXTURE from June 28 to July 1. Launched in 2021, IM MEN pursues new possibilities of clothes-making with respect to the human body, derived from Issey Miyake’s philosophy of a piece of cloth. The design team sets out to redefine clothing with the approach to both a garment’s form-making and its construction, reflecting the practice of the integration of design and engineering.

The concept for the Spring/Summer 2026 collection, the second participation in Paris Fashion Week, was inspired by the work of Japanese ceramic artist Shoji Kamoda (1933–1983). From the moment we encountered Kamodaʼs pieces, which are not confined within the boundaries of traditional Japanese crafts, we instinctively felt that “we wanted to wear them as garments”. As we continued our research, we were deeply moved by Kamodaʼs unwavering dedication and sincere approach to his creative practice, as well as his forward-looking spirit, ever in search of a fresh perspective and distinctive sculptural beauty. These qualities provided us with both stimulation and profound insight.

The collection amplifies the senses awakened through our quiet dialogue with Kamodaʼs work, and expresses them as garments. We were struck by the impact of his creations, and we hope these pieces become something that evoke the same sensation of wonder in those who wear them. This exhibition features garments presented during the show, displayed flat in two-dimensions and as styled three-dimensional looks on mannequins. We also showcase the threads and fabrics used in their creation, offering a glimpse into the making process. In addition, visitors can view two original works by Shoji Kamoda that served as sources of inspiration, along with video footage capturing their intricate details. Issey Miyake Exhibition Present IM MEN Dancing Texture, from June 28 to 30, special guided tours led by the design team will be held, providing a deeper understanding of the design and making behind IM MEN.
