Bonnetje Spring/Summer 2026 / SS26 at Copenhagen Fashion Week entitled Breakable
For Bonnetje SS26 / Spring/Summer 2026 show, the Danish duo explores a newfound human fragility which they also dream of as a newfound agility or flexibility. Those most sensitive and exposed to a changing world, they ponder, may also more readily adapt to it. It’s an investigation into how things break and also reassemble in line with their work back to their first collection in 2024.
For Bonnetje SS26 / Spring/Summer 2026 collection, the designers seek inspiration in the paradoxical nature of glass. It protects, yet easily shatters. It conceals, but also reveals. Similarly to glass, Bonnetje’s clothes are conceived of as an interface between ourselves and our surroundings. In a world ridden by crisis, insecurity and change, they toy with how we protect ourselves, but also what we want to show, let go off and stand up for.
In certain pieces, Bonnetje wraps their models in garments as if they were fragile goods. The pieces draw on the language of lingerie, using plissé textures, fringed linings, and unfinished edges. It’s suggestive of vulnerability and care. But Bonnetje also incites play and room for manoeuvre. Two skirts atop one another, one opaque and the other transparent, offer options of either shielding or showing.
Breakable introspectively deals with Bonnetje’s own method of tearing used clothes apart, breaking it up into pieces and tying it all together again. But Breakable also deals with how we lose and regain footing – and the ability that fragility may instill is us.
