Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer 2026 / SS26 at Paris Fashion Week
The earliest dress sense is instinctive. During our formative years – as we transition from girls into women – we search for our voice not only verbally but visually, too. Over the last year, Victoria Beckham has re-acquainted herself with photographs and footage from her young adulthood, an experience which sparked a reflection on the designer’s own adolescent exploration of dressing.
Victoria Beckham SS26 / Spring/Summer 2026, the retrospective inspires an abstract adaptation of the coming-of-age wardrobe: the experimental gestures, naïve compositions and happy accidents that shape the way we learn to dress and express ourselves. Seen through the present-day eyes of Victoria Beckham – who is mother to a teenage daughter – the proposal re-connects with the pure joy of dressing inherent to the exceptional stage of girlhood.
Conjuring the characteristic romanticism of rite-of-pas-sage films such as Romeo + Juliet and The Virgin Suicides, a girly spontaneity takes form, conveyed in delicate garments imbued with the erosion and creasing found in a young person’s wardrobe. Slip dresses are smocked to create rosette structures hand-sprayed to evoke a worn effect. Tonal floral jacquard lace dresses – some with bustiers – are re-enforced through bonding and adorned with creases at the bust. The underpinnings of the dress-up ritual – negligees, camisoles and slip skirts – appear in pressed organza emblazoned with ditsy florals and prettified with plissé, lace trims and crinoline elements. The latter are also employed to shape the sculpted hems of rompers and little shorts, while the slashed keyhole décolletés of t-shirts add impulse to a house code.
A trapping of girly glamour, erosion-sprayed plume adorns jersey top and dresses, and nods at the spontaneous self-styling distinctive to youth. A young woman’s discovery of tailoring is captured in plays on volume and wear. The signature sleeve-crease of Victoria Beckham expands in blazers and tuxedo jackets with pleats along the bust and pressage around the pockets. Herringbone grandpa suits sans lapels nod at the youthful adaption of inherited pieces. Their paper-bag trousers are cut in magnified volumes and cinched to fit; an effect echoed in skirts. Tailored trousers are suspended from georgette basques evoking the adolescent gesture of accidentally tucking one’s top into one’s tights. Magnified lumberjack over-shirts woven in cotton and bonded to shirting lining evolve the appropriation of hand-me-downs, expounded in oversized sturdy cotton-canvas parkas with marbled erosion. A more precious interpretation of the same silhouette appears in fine cotton. Japanese denim trousers mirror the paper-bag cut with fold-over detailing. The edges of a nubuck jacket are wired and crushed as if it had been crumbled up and folded out before wearing. The collection is rendered in a delicate palette of sand dune, coral, aquamarine and blue mist inspired by the coming-of-age motif and Victoria Beckham’s personal synaesthetic memories of the stage in life between girlhood and womanhood.
Accessories of Victoria Beckham SS26 / Spring/Summer 2026 collection’s playful language inspires the new Plie bag, a voluminous, rectangular leather bag tactually pressed into a pleat across the centre. The Victoria tote adapts the checks of the lumberjack jackets, while a new V-seam duffel bag nods at the paper bag construction of trousers and skirts. A rigid, rectangular camera bag features a front pocket and a belt buckle detail. Structured like an accordion, the Dolly is a new top-handle bag that presses into a flatter form. For evening, beaded, triangular fold-over bags with frills pose as jewellery. Shoes manifest in masculine pointed sling-backs and lace-ups on Cuban heels, and stiletto sandals whose leather frames flatteringly encase the foot. A new belt that shifts the emblematic metal B to the tip appears alongside toggle buckle belts. The season’s sunglasses materialise in oversized rectangular shapes in mixed colours and bones as well as faded lenses. Jewellery includes silver plume earrings and rings with pavé adornment and wraparound silver feather rings.
