Chanel Spring/Summer 2026: A Universal Dream by Matthieu Blazy

Above all, there is an idea of freedom — of a new universal dress and a borderless blending of styles; the inheritance of not just one CHANEL woman, but of CHANEL women. “I love everything that is above: the sky, the moon, I believe in the stars,” once said Gabrielle Chanel. This poetic vision inspired Matthieu Blazy’s debut for the House, where the codes of CHANEL were reimagined through a celestial lens. “For this first CHANEL show, I wanted to do something quite universal, like a dream, something outside of time,” Blazy explained. “We all observe the same sky, and I think it provokes the same emotions in us.”

Presented under the monumental glass dome of the Grand Palais in Paris, the CHANEL SS26 / Spring/Summer 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection unfolded as a spectacular and unequivocal expression of pure beauty. Blazy drew upon CHANEL’s rich heritage while introducing an entirely modern hand, shaping the maison’s future with lightness and grace. The show opened with a reinvention of the tweed suit — transformed from the iconic cardigan silhouette into a relaxed, mannish trouser suit with upturned lapels and slouched, low-slung trousers. The movement of the clothes felt fluid and effortless, evoking the sensation of garments floating through the cosmos.

Throughout the collection, Blazy’s reinterpretation of CHANEL’s visual language was evident. He set aside the most recognizable Karl Lagerfeld-era signatures — the structured sweaters, the tightly woven cocktail dresses — in favor of looser, more organic silhouettes. Cotton, silk, and satin replaced the heavier tweeds, giving the collection a sense of air and motion. The asymmetrical cuts, soft draping, and unexpected pairings of texture expressed a freedom of form and spirit, reflecting Blazy’s desire to move CHANEL into a new era of modern femininity.

Accessories, too, received a thoughtful transformation. The iconic 2.55 handbag, long a symbol of CHANEL’s timeless elegance, was deconstructed and softened. “I didn’t know what to do,” Blazy admitted, recalling his attempts to cover it with embroidery or remove the chain — until he decided to let it live naturally. The result is a bag that feels “borrowed, passed through generations — something lived, something cherished.” In this collection, Matthieu Blazy successfully captured both the essence of CHANEL’s legacy and the promise of its evolution — a constellation of tradition, emotion, and freedom shining brightly into the house’s future.
