ssstein 2026 – 2027 Fall/Winter / FW26 at Paris Men’s Fashion Week

At the core of ssstein FW26 / Fall/Winter 2026 – 2027 collection lies an emotional sensibility drawn from everyday scenes. Kiichiro Asakawa, founder and creative director of the brand, explains. “It might be the imagined emotions of people that I observe, not only my own feelings. Or the pleasure of discovering Jamie Hawkesworth’s landscape photographs, and rediscovering banal views of Tokyo. A simple joy and a warm feeling laced with nostalgia bring me great peace of mind.”

Extracts of life are translated into the shades and texture: The accent colours such as green, red and yellow evoke autumnal leaves or their nocturnal luminosity under streetlights. The sight of an elderly couple walking closely together in a park, dressed in worn clothes, is reinterpreted into the elements such as soft-loom tweed, delicately uneven-coloured corduroy (sun-dried after dyeing) and slightly fuzzy argyle knits.

Asakawa’s obsession with elaborated materials and clever details point to this season’s significant new direction. The statement piece is a soft-tailored gray coat with raglan sleeves. The slightly off-center closure is described by the designer as “deconstructed Chesterfield.” The cashmere-feel flannel is slowly woven by shuttle looms to bring air in and slightly felted, resulting in an exceptionally soft and melting texture. Brushed finish adds a subtle luster. Adding crisp structure to the relaxed silhouette, the collar is doubled with suede and stands tall. The balmacaan coat made from soft lambswool tweed also includes a leather-reinforced collar. The double-collar blouson has a special trick too, and the inner collar tucks neatly into the detachable outer collar.

“The sportier items are minimal yet conceal very sophisticated technique”, stresses the designer, showing proudly the red blouson made of wool and cashmere. “Thanks to the hand-stitch scooping only the inner layer of the double-cloth, no stitching is visible when worn”. The blouson in lustrous beaver cloth with a lightweight padded lining also stands out. Drawstring-waisted track pants have both a tailored and an arty touch, with a fly front and twisted side seams. Its loopback cotton is soft and smooth on one side and fluffy, like terry toweling, on the other. And it keeps the original shape forever. The jean range-arch-legged, reshaped from straight silhouette (ssstein’s signature design), and wide-legged-introduces colored denim. Using rope-dyed warp yarns that retain a white core, the fabric is subtly textured. In the knitwear, whether cashmere, mohair, or wool intarsia, brushing techniques are extensively used.

ssstein FW26 / Fall/Winter 2026 – 2027, the entire collection is now available in XS and the additional pieces include feminine designs such as two-way maxi skirt and tight-fit tank top. A hint of ssstein’s soon-to-be women’s line.

About Kiichiro Asakawa, An alumni of Tokyo Gakugei University, Kiichiro Asakawa is a self-taught designer. His first job in fashion industry was sales assistant at Naichichi, the multi-brand store in Tokyo. During six years spent there, he was so curious about garment’s construction that he often took apart vintage pieces from the store. The closure of Naichichi in 2016 turned to be the beginning of a new chapter for Asakawa: His own store Carol was born. Besides edgy designer clothes, at Carol, he offered pairs of vintage Levi’s 501 jeans that could be specially adapted to each customer’s unique morphology. This project’s success led him to launch ssstein the following year, with just three trouser designs. Two seasons later, he developed the brand into a full collection, adding tops and coats. As a photography amateur, the direction of campaign image is also his area of artistic expressions.
