Canali Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 at Milan Fashion Week entitled ON THE SPICE ROUTE
Cinnamon and cardamom, star anise, vanilla, ginger and nutmeg: more than mere spices, these are meeting points between distant worlds that might otherwise never have encountered one another — from Indonesia to India, across East Africa and the Mediterranean. An eclectic, richly layered cultural symposium that nourished the body as much as the spirit and the mind, training the palate to unfamiliar flavours and the imagination to uncharted possibilities. It is from these atmospheres and impressions that Alessio Lillocci, Creative Director of CANALI, draws the palette for the SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection.
Every choice is guided by a research into raw materials taken to a further level of refinement: fibres selected with even greater rigour, constructions that honour the intrinsic quality of each material, and a constant pursuit of the most precious expressions of every fabric.
The Canali SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection sets sail from the Indonesian islands towards India, an itinerary that symbolically marks the opening of the warm season. True to the chromatic spirit and the historical reality of a navigator’s wardrobe, the collection unfolds through a sophisticated layering system, conceived to adapt naturally to changing climatic conditions and to accompany the rhythm of the journey. Lightweight fabrics that transcend the seasons are rendered in shades of sesame, star anise and cinnamon — as in the full-grain suede blouson with its dégagé elegance, worn over carrot-fit cotton canvas trousers and knitwear characterized by intricate micro-perforated constructions in pure cotton or cotton-silk blends. Knitwear, one of the defining categories of the collection, evolves through structured stitches, openwork techniques and precious yarns such as the newNuvola cotton, conceived to intensify lightness and comfort. The tailored side of the wardrobe follows the same logic: suits take on warm tonalities and soften the edges of formal dressing through V-neck knitwear and casual bucket hats, complemented, when the weather calls for it, by outerwear that borrows technical attributes from the utility world. The trouser proposal centres primarily on the carrot fit, interpreting the theme of volume through contemporary proportions while preserving the refined elegance that is intrinsic to Canali.
The journey continues towards the East African coast, where the collection grows lighter still and introduces an increasingly significant presence of linen, both pure and in blends. Trousers take on shades of nutmeg and knitwear of cardamom, while denim fabric – here almost exclusively Japanese – is enriched by coloured wefts and indigo warps. Moving on towards Greece, the collection crosses seas coloured in iridescent blues, shifting from myrtle bluedissolving into salt of Persia hues, flooding the blazers and rewriting their conventions. In this leg of the voyage, the blue blazer becomes the absolute protagonist of the narrative, reinterpreted through different constructions and weights to offer a contemporary reading of one of the cornerstones of the male wardrobe. Outerwear follows the same philosophy, resulting in reversible wool and nylon cloths, while the pursuit of distinguished materials finds new expression in ultra-light nappa leathers combined with technical constructions.
The sartorial journey finally docks in the port of Alicudi. Here, natural nuances colour linen crêpe suits with micro-chalk stripes, and impalpably light proposals in Sea Island cotton surrender fully to summer. Bermuda shorts, linen and cotton knitwear, and fabrics increasingly weighted towards natural fibres define a wardrobe that is relaxed without ever sacrificing sophistication. The introduction of black marks an important new direction for Canali: traditionally associated with a more fashion-forward code, the colour is reinterpreted through the house’s own language, becoming part of a wardrobe that is refined, effortless and deeply elegant.
The footwear of Canali SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection is entirely reconceived through a range that spans from SoftGoodyear constructions, lightened by sophisticated techniques that render them exceptionally supple and flexible, to new hybrid interpretations, boat shoes, sandals and espadrilles — all united by a constant pursuit of lightness and comfort. Completing the wardrobe, a new proposal of belts, small leather goods and accessories developed with the same attention to detail that distinguishes every category of the collection, adding precisely the right spices to the timeless recipe of masculine elegance.
