Yoke Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 during Paris Fashion Week
For the Spring/Summer 2027 season, YOKE found deep resonance in the spirit of Meret Oppenheim, one of the leading figures of Surrealism, and in the artistic concept she explored: Dépaysement. “An object can become something else.” When familiar everyday objects are removed from their original context and encounter an unexpected texture, they take on a new life, accompanied by a powerful sense of dissonance. This season, we developed the collection around the theme of “the transformation of texture.”
The textures created through exceptional craftsmanship often reveal expressions beyond my imagination. The surprise of witnessing a material transform into something entirely different felt, to me, like the very essence of Dépaysemen Oppenheimʼs ability to transform ordinary objects into something strange and unfamiliar.
Introduced last season, the womenswear line now gradually merges with the menswear collection, forming a seamless gradient between the two. Rejecting conventional notions of masculinity and femininity, Oppenheim boldly declared that “the spirit has no gender.” Resonating with her androgynous aesthetic, we sought to transcend the established boundaries between menswear and womenswear, reinterpreting familiar garments through material transformation and connecting them to new values. The humor and subtle sense of unease embedded in Oppenheimʼs work-gently subverting fixed perceptions and expectations represent what we believe to be the true fascination of fashion. For this reason, her spirit became the core of this Yoke SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection.
One of Oppenheimʼs most iconic works, Object (Le Déjeuner en fourrure), served as a major source of inspiration. By covering a teacup, saucer, and spoon with fur, she transformed ordinary household objects made of cold porcelain and metal through the introduction of a warm, animalistic texture. Stripped of their original function, these objects became entirely new entities. The combination of inherently incompatible qualities creates a striking sense of discomfort and fresh surprise.
Yoke SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection began with the deconstruction of such fixed visual perceptions. Materials traditionally associated with Autumn/Winter such as fur, long-pile fabrics, leather, and wool have been intentionally relocated into a Spring/Summer context. A textile featuring an all-over herringbone pattern embroidered with warm wool-acrylic yarn onto a cold, industrial nylon base creates an unexpected contrast in texture. Leather that appears at first glance to be denim is achieved through intricate embossing and discharge-dyeing techniques by Japanese artisans, giving it a distinctive character and presence unattainable with actual denim. Lightweight, breathable cupro layered with flock printing results in a hybrid material that combines the richness of corduroy with elegant drape. In knitwear, sheet-like cupro is finely cut into narrow strands and twisted together with kid mohair, creating a unique balance between the crisp, paper-like touch of traditional Japanese washi and the warmth brought by mohairʼs soft pile. The gap between what we see and what we feel. This sense of dissonance became one of the defining elements of the collection. Through craftsmanship, we seek to reconnect materials, functions, and perception in new ways. Within that process, we find the possibilities of fashion as envisioned by YOKE.
For Yoke SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027, do collaboration with Pøsitum, a Tokyo-based product design brand that redefines the boundary between interiors and fashion through an industrial approach, everyday objects were transformed into bags with entirely new functions. The brand also present the first collaboration with the Spanish brand HEREU, featuring a collection of leather sandals. In addition, we continue the collaborations with TSUCHIYA KABAN, foot the coacher, Marbot, and REPRODUCTION OF FOUND, introducing new collaborative pieces for the season. As an homage to Oppenheimʼs Object (Le Déjeuner en fourrure), created a folding fan printed with a fur motif and paired it with a faux-fur case. Fur, intended to provide warmth, and a folding fan, intended to provide coolness̶two objects that would never ordinarily coexist. By bringing them together, the brand sought to create a small act of Dépaysement. The brand hope this Japanese folding fan brings you a moment of cool relief during the heat of the Paris summer.
