A collapsing of perspective – histories combining, a world floating without anchor. As a phrase, le monde flottant defines an existence within a single moment, an embrace of the ephemeral. The début Boloria collection by Olivier Theyskens draws from this idea and ideal, shaping an identity for this new house. Borrowing its nomenclature from a genus of butterfly, a sense of the transient is inherent, as with fashion. To be present, then to vanish, yet to leave an indelible trace.

The notion of the conscious and unconscious are in play – allegorical and narrative, a dream, evolving into the reality of silhouettes for all genders, clothes created to span the spectrum of a permanent garde-robe. The tangible and intangible, through materialities and their hidden meanings. We can imagine a past, rooted in the past century and beyond, a mirage of patrimony. A distinct Belgian nature shapes, evocation of cultures, materials, landscapes and color – a milieu, expressed through feeling, a perspective, a palette. Clothes may also allude to a before – their forms are contemporary, yet their construction cherishes values of the past. Linings, tailoring details, gestures in cloth. Methods of creation link today with yesteryear.

Boloria SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 palette rouses memory, of the muted colors of the flatlands. Fabrics are noble and precious: fine wool and cashmere, silk charmeuse, cotton with the softest of hands, a delicate veil of silk lace. Meanwhile the interior of garments may transform into the anterior, reversible pieces championing a forgotten sense of artisanship present throughout, like a pulse. There is a timeless elegance to proportions, elongated and attenuated. Bias cutting shifts architectures within flou and tailoring, applied to evening dresses, trousers, jackets. In their languid drape, their sensuousness, they seem to retain a remembrance of the bodies within.
