For Collection 12, Nicklas Skovgaard turns to cinema as both emotional and conceptual departure, drawing inspiration from the 1937 Danish film Mille, Marie og Mig (Mille, Marie and Me), starring Danish actress Marguerite Viby. The film’s exploration of duality, disguise, and desire becomes a framework for examining the multiplicity of identity – the quiet rebellion of being more than one thing at once.

The story follows a woman who lives between worlds: a disciplined medical student by day and a luminous cabaret singer by night. Her constant transformation becomes an allegory for the modern self, navigating performance and authenticity, restraint and excess, intellect and intuition. Mille embodies theatricality and glamour – satin surfaces, heightened silhouettes, and fabrics suspended in motion. Marie represents introspection and restraint, expressed through softened structures and controlled romanticism. Mig (me) is the reconciliation of both: contradictions fused into a strange harmony, where glamour becomes functional and discipline turns sensual.

This season marks a shift toward a more pronounced femininity. While contrast remains central to Skovgaard’s work, the silhouettes are sharper and more overtly feminine than ever before. A new ground silhouette moves away from the brand’s signature bubble hems, drawing focus toward the waist and introducing a more classic expression.

Material manipulation continues to define the collection. Classic jacket and dress silhouettes appear in unexpected fabrics such as boiled wool, deliberately disrupting expectations of elegance. Functional details are transformed into ornament – oversized wool buttons, originally practical, become purely decorative. Throughout the collection, garments subtly pretend to be something other than what they are, using strong contrasts in material, color, and construction to blur boundaries between utility and illusion.

Technical evolution is evident in Skovgaard’s fabric manipulations. Ripped pleated styles return with increased volume and precision, combining airy fabrications and structured wool in bold yet harmonious color palettes. Knitwear also takes on an expanded role, layered in merino wool and cotton knits, challenged through vivid contrasts and evolving silhouettes.

“This collection began with the idea of inhabiting several selves at once – the urge to perform, to conceal, to reveal,” says Nicklas Skovgaard. “Each piece carries that tension. It’s an invitation to be many things, unapologetically.”

The show itself reinforces this immediacy. Guests stand in a carefully curated line, creating direct eye contact with the models and an intimacy that brings the collection within reach. The atmosphere is heightened by a live performance from cellist Cæcilie Trier, adding an emotional, cinematic layer to the presentation. Styling further emphasizes the dialogue between function and fantasy. A partnership with HOFF introduces sneakers as a contemporary counterpoint to the collection’s romanticism, worn alongside a selection of vintage shoes.
