MEGMIURA WARDROBE Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo
MEGMIURA WARDROBE, winner of the 2023 JFW Digital Fashion Week Grand Prix, participated in Rakuten FWT for the first time since the 2023 A/W season. Capturing the concept of “clothing beautiful from every angle,” the brand presented its specialty outerwear that combined functionality and fashionability. For MEGMIURA WARDROBE SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 show, however, the designer focused on highlighting unique personalities through the use of outerwear. “I chose this presentation because this is exactly how I want to present my collection,” said designer Miura. By casting models of varying heights, genders, and ages yet having several of them wear the same look, the brand revealed an individuality that the clothing was capable of bringing out in each person.
This season’s theme was “POST NEW WAVE,” produced from a deep admiration for David Byrne of the rock band “Talking Heads”—drawing influence from his music and approach to creating movement. While the designer typically incorporates elements of uniforms into every collection, this time the focus was on fishermen’s attire. Motifs evoking the sea, including Basque shirts and sailor hats, were incorporated into the looks. The featured knit items created by Yuri Asaka of “KNIT CRUSADERS” were a rare sight for the brand.
MEGMIURA WARDROBE SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection revealed that through shifting your perspective, any garment can take on a new life. The same clothing was able to reveal a completely different character depending on which model was wearing it, allowing viewers to encounter fresh beauty from every angle, all 360 degrees, 365 days a year, anytime, anywhere. It was a runway show that reminded the audience of the pure sense of joy fashion can bring.
