Marine Serre And Chaisor Reimagine A French Icon
Launching in September, the exclusive collaboration introduces three limited-edition, individually numbered Chaisor chairs revisited through Marine Serreās iconic All-Over Moon motif.
Rooted in a shared commitment to French craftsmanship, heritage and timeless design, Marine Serre and Chaisor come together to reinterpret an icon of French furniture. Manufactured in France since 1962, the Chaisor chair has endured across generations thanks to its distinctive silhouette, exceptional construction and remarkable longevity. For this collaboration, it is reimagined in three exclusive editions: Tan, Inverse Tan and Denim.
Originally conceived by founder and designer LĆ©o Jouk, Chaisor stands apart within the history of folding furniture. Designed as a chair in its own right, it combines functionality with the presence and construction of a permanent piece of furniture. Its distinctive āchapeau de gendarmeā backrest gives the chair its instantly recognizable silhouette, while its base is reinforced by a ācroix de Saint AndrĆ©ā, a structural principle used for centuries in architecture to provide stability and distribute weight evenly. At the heart of Chaisor is an uncompromising approach to durability. Each chair is guaranteed for 30 years, while many pieces produced in the 1960s remain in use today. This exceptional longevity reflects the quality of its construction and the enduring nature of its design, conceived to accompany interiors over time rather than respond to passing trends.
Handmade in France through a meticulous artisanal process, Chaisor embodies many of the values traditionally associated with exceptional design: French manufacturing, craftsmanship, structural precision, durability and a savoir-faire preserved over time. Today, this legacy is carried forward by StĆ©phanie Aubry, who continues to preserve and develop the singular expertise first established in 1962. This philosophy naturally resonates with Marine Serreās own universe. Deeply influenced by notions of heritage, transmission, transformation and the way objects accompany everyday life, the House approaches Chaisor not simply as functional furniture, but as an object made to live with its owner over time.
Through the application of Marine Serreās iconic All-Over Moon motif, the chair acquires a new identity. Each individually numbered piece brings together the character of an original 1960s French design with the visual language of Marine Serre, transforming a familiar object into a collectible piece. Entirely produced in France, the collaboration reflects the meeting of two singular identities united by a common attention to craftsmanship, durability and cultural legacy. The result is a chair designed to be used, kept and lived with over time: an object rooted in the past while continuing to acquire meaning through the interiors and lives it inhabits.
To accompany the launch, Marine Serre will reveal the collaboration through a series of conversations featuring selected talents invited to sit on the chairs and share personal stories about objects tied to memories, emotions or moments from their lives. Through these intimate exchanges, the chair becomes a space for reflection, storytelling and human connection.
