Libertine Spring/Summer 2027 at New York Fashion Week

Libertine Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 at New York Fashion Week – Marks 25 Years with a Garden-Filled collection.

Twenty-five years into Libertine’s story, the New York label continues to build its collections around curiosity rather than convention. For SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027, that instinct leads designer Johnson Hartig into a garden—an intentionally unruly place where flowers, butterflies, handmade details, and traces of everyday life become part of the collection’s visual language.

Presented during New York Fashion Week at the National Arts Club on September 9, the collection, titled “Out of the Chaos and Into the Garden,” brings together several of Libertine’s familiar signatures while exploring them through a distinctly botanical setting. Warhol-inspired butterflies appear across ivory silk, while a Bloomsbury-esque patchwork is developed on linen. Another print takes its cue from paint-splattered drop cloths that caught Hartig’s attention while his foyer was being painted, turning an ordinary material into something unexpectedly expressive.

The garden theme also appears through more tactile details. Giant paillette butterflies add movement and shine, while garden tools are hand-silkscreened onto garments. One of the more elaborate pieces is a topiary coat, hand-embroidered with double boxwood arranged in Versailles-style boxes. Together, these details give the collection a playful quality without losing the handcrafted character associated with Libertine.

The Libertine SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 show also carries particular significance for the label: it marks 25 years of remaining independently operated and creatively uncompromised. That longevity is unusual in fashion, particularly for a brand that has continued to pursue its own ideas rather than conforming to prevailing conventions. The anniversary therefore becomes less about looking backward and more about recognizing the creative freedom that has shaped Libertine’s journey.

Among the guests of Libertine SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 at the New York presentation were Martha Stewart, Sarah Sherman, Colleen Heidemann, Julia Berolzheimer, Cynthia Rowley, and Lena Hall. After a quarter century, Hartig’s approach remains centered on following his curiosity wherever it leads—this season, quite literally, into the garden.
