ANREALAGE presents JUST AN REAL AGE, a pop-up retrospective and shop marking 25 collections in Paris, curated by JUST AN IDEA’s Sarah Andelman. Running October 2–5 in the Marais, the exhibition looks back on founder Kunihiko Morinaga’s work and his constant questioning of the boundaries between the ordinary and extraordinary, the familiar and unfamiliar – the real and unreal.

The collaboration comes 10 years after Andelman attended ANREALAGE’s S/S 2016 “REFLECT” show at the Palais de Tokyo, beginning a relationship that continued through the 2019 LVMH Prize, grew closer with the A/W 2024 “OBJECT” collection and led to several joint projects. JUST AN REAL AGE fuses JUST AN IDEA and ANREALAGE. “JUST means only a little,” says Morinaga, “our own little touch of the extraordinary.”

THE RETROSPECTIVE – From S/S 2015 “SHADOW” to S/S 2027 “SKIN”, looks from 25 collections unfold across three rooms, the first two sheathed in an immaculate white membrane, like a vacuum-sealed time capsule. Archival silhouettes turn clockwise on a circular podium beneath the sphere from the A/W 2024-25 “OBJECT” collection – inspired by time-traveling anime character Doraemon – offering a carousel of experiments in fabric, construction and form. Robotic arms sweep UV light across photochromic pieces from A/W 2023-24 “=”, revealing new colors and patterns – light makes the invisible visible.

Looks from the S/S 2027 “SKIN” collection complete a loop. As A and Z overlap in the ANREALAGE logo, turning 26 letters into 25, Morinaga’s 25th Paris collection returns to A. Past meets present. “The road we believed was a straight line had been drawing a circle.”

SONGS FOR ANREALAGE – The third space is dedicated to Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, who first collaborated with Morinaga on the 2024 ballet Mirage, beginning a conversation around their shared interest in humans, technology and experimentation. As looks from A/W 2025–26 “SCREEN” and S/S 2026 “♥” return, Bangalter’s bespoke soundtracks for the shows play in the space. Created for the Paris runway, the music takes physical form for the first time as SONGS FOR ANREALAGE, a single record pressed by The Vinyl Factory.
