Casa Preti Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 at Milan Fashion Week entitled “Palermo”.
Palermo stems from a reflection on the ways in which images are produced, experienced and transformed today. A series of images collected in our city captures its features, signs and characteristics in a direct and clear manner, constructing a visual narrative deeply rooted in Palermo. It is an analysis of contemporary capitalism and its systems for capitalising on images and emotions, its seductive calls, and the processes through which we observe, consume and re-signify what surrounds us.cWithin this research, the figure of Saint Sebastian becomes a means of investigating the capitalisation of the image and its progressive emptying of meaning: an image that, through repetition, circulation and appropriation, is transformed and takes on ever-new meanings.
Palermo is an ode to the city, to the places of an eternal return home. An invitation to moderation, through the evocation of sirens, their apotropaic function and their role as monsters. An invitation not to be seduced by the siren song of capitalism, while asking those very sirens to protect us from it.
The same approach shapes the construction of the collection. Departing from its usual exploration of garments that resist definition, Casa Preti builds an essential wardrobe composed of basic items: underwear, shirts, windbreakers and jeans. Elements reinterpreted in silk, denim, and 100% recycled and recyclable nylon. Above all, Palermo is an act of protest. An ode intended to remind us that our Republic and our Constitution were born from the collapse of a system of violence. A rejection of fascism and of all the forms through which it continues to permeate our society. A position taken by Casa Preti which, while its research has always avoided being didactic or explicit, today feels it necessary to state what should be self-evident: a rejection of violence. A rejection of systems that reduce complexity through violence.
With Palermo, Art Director Mattia Piazza focuses on our contemporary relationship with images, on the processes through which we observe, consume and re-signify them, and on the calls to which we choose, or choose not, to respond.
