Sébastien Meunier Unveils Spring/Summer 2027 / SS27 Collection entitled “Sébastien Meunier Re·Authored”
Hyères, October 2026 — Sébastien Meunier unveils his SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection in a site-specific installation at Villa Noailles, as part of the 41st International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories in Hyères. Entitled « Sébastien Meunier Re·Authored », the project brings contemporary garments, personal memories and a video installation together in an exhibition conceived specifically for the Villa.
Since relaunching his eponymous label in 2024, Sébastien Meunier has reclaimed his creative territory, one collection at a time. For Sébastien Meunier SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027, he goes further. Rather than isolate another facet of his vocabulary, he subjects nearly three decades of codes, silhouettes and obsessions to a candid, unsparing examination. What has endured? What has been left behind? What was there from the first day and still carries force today? Inevitably, the enquiry extends beyond his own label to the fashion houses whose identities he helped shape: where does the language of a house end, and where does that of the designer begin? The project emerges from this reckoning. To re-author is neither to quote nor to restore, but to return to an existing work, code or narrative after time and experience have altered both its author and its context, and to transform it so that it may become active again. Together, the collection and its presentation at Villa Noailles give form to these questions rather than seek to resolve them, addressing a broader concern for fashion today: how to engage with creative legacies, including one’s own?
From the outset, Sébastien Meunier’s work brought sexuality, bodily transformation and the assertion of identity to the fore. His first collection marked a rupture within a fashion landscape still shaped by Belgian conceptualism, introducing an autobiographical and openly sexualised vision of masculinity. Under his own name, he pursued this territory with uncommon directness, placing his own body at the center of an inquiry into identity and self-representation. These concerns travelled with him to Maison Martin Margiela, where he helped found MM6 before directing the House’s menswear lines. In 2010, Ann Demeulemeester chose him as her successor, entrusting him with the evolution of the House’s romantic language towards a more gender-liberated aesthetic.
Villa Noailles occupies a precise and deeply personal place in this trajectory. In April 1998, Sébastien Meunier presented his first collection at the Festival in Hyères and received the Fashion Grand Prix from a jury chaired by Martine Sitbon, Hussein Chalayan and Jean Colonna. The Grand Prix was more than an early distinction: Hyères was the first place where his work was publicly recognised and where several relationships that would shape his career first emerged. The award led him to Jean Colonna’s studio, before he launched his own menswear label in 1999 and joined Martin Margiela in 2000. It was also in Hyères that he first met Frédéric Sanchez, beginning a creative dialogue that has continued for nearly three decades. Sébastien Meunier returned to the Festival in 2006 with an exhibition, as the first chapter of his eponymous label was drawing to a close. In 2026, he returns once more, marking a first in the Festival’s history: a former fashion laureate unveiling an entirely new collection in the place where he was first discovered. For Sébastien Meunier, Villa Noailles is a place of disruption where his work is forced, each time, to confront itself anew.
Set within the Villa’s guest rooms, the installation brings together the SS27 / Spring/Summer 2027 collection, thousands of research images and memories. A specially conceived sound composition by Frédéric Sanchez lends the installation a deeply personal resonance. Alongside it, a video installation by multidisciplinary artist Can Jason Borruso, untitled « Toujours pour la première fois » brings cinematography, performance and dance into dialogue with the collection, summoning the ghosts of both Villa Noailles and Sébastien Meunier. Only one archival garment is on view: the emblematic leather coat from the 1998 collection. Together, these elements reveal the intangible heritage of a designer, not as a chronology, but as a constellation of images, sounds and gestures that persist, disappear and return.
The 41st International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories of Hyères takes place from 15 October to 18 October 2026, while the exhibition will remain on view until 28 February 2027.
