PÓST IED Avant Défilé 2021

The clothes created by the IED fashion designers come to life in a physical dialogue between fashion and dance

11 collections, 13 performers from the Accademia Kataklò, a dog and 7 places in Milan that is starting up again

in the fashion film presented at Milano ModaUomo

Milano, June 18th – It is a video performance filmed in seven cultural locations in Milan – halted by the pandemic crisis and now protagonists of the recovery – to host the thesis collections of the best IED 2020/21 Fashion Design graduates. In the fashion film entitled PÓST IED Avant Défilé 2021, presented at Milano ModaUomo under the creative direction of Olivia Spinelli and directed by Nicola Garzetti, the students’ collections come to life in a dialogue between fashion and dance, a union that finds its foundation in a common ground, the human body, a communicative vector of life and rebirth.

The encounter with the physicality of the Accademia Kataklò performers (directed in interpretation and movement by Giulia Staccioli and Vito Cassano) enhances the expressive value of the outfits, giving shape to narrative pictures that unfold in places such as the Arena Civica Gianni Brera, the BagniMisteriosiswimming pooland the Franco Parenti Theatre, the Circolo Arci Bellezza, the DanceHaus Susanna Beltrami school, the Piscina Cozzi – Milanosportswimming pool, the Chiesa Rossa Library – Milan Library System. The soundtrack composed by sound designers CosmaCastellucci, Mattia Liciotti and Riccardo Santalucia (Alumni IED Milano) helps create the settings, further emphasising the fusion of dress and movement.

With the PÓST project and the return to a presential event at Milano ModaUomo we want to bring attention back to the essential value of physicality, after all the deprivation of affection, contact and sharing experienced in over a year. Physicality that must pass through the body and places. We have therefore reviewed various Milanese spaces dedicated to culture, aggregation and exchange, which until recently were closed and are now the key to a daily renaissance, choosing certain ones that could symbolically represent this. What guides us is the idea that to exhibit clothes today that are not connected to the real people and places that inhabit them would be like pretending nothing has happened”, comments Olivia Spinelli, Coordinator and Creative Director of IED Moda Milano.PÓST is therefore the result of an indispensable joining of dots, necessary to design a constellation made up of inhabited spaces, bodies in movement and garments that have acquired strength.Doing this together with the Accademia Kataklò was incredible: the awakening was needed, at (acro)dance pace.”

“When a garment comes into contact with a dancer’s body, the temple and instrument of his or her art, it comes to life, it becomes an extension of his or her muscles, his or her movement, his or her communicative message. It becomes the partner to dance with, the companion to enhance”, comments Giulia Staccioli, Artistic Director of Accademia Kataklò (the leading training and professional school dedicated to physical theatre performers) and founder of the Kataklò Athletic Dance Theatre company. “By overcoming the démodé concept of ethereal and unattainable beauty, dance offers fashion a material and communicative three-dimensionality, always magnetic and effective because it is never the same.”

11 graduate collections are featured in the fashion film, projects that move between a sense of cultural belonging and the need to resist and revolutionise. The designers areAlexandru Basalic, Luca Bianco, Dara Silva Bulleri, Susanna Dalgrosso, Elia Docente, Elena Gregori, Andrea Annarita Mazza, Alessia Monachino, Gaetano Stea, Marco Terenzi, Anna Vedovelli.  They will be worn by the performers who are students on Kataklò’s professional courses: Gian Mattia Baldan, Niccolò Basile, ChloéBertini, Giulio Caravatti, Federica Cuzzaniti, GiorgiaFaggionato, Lucio Failla, Naomi Gino Grillo, Sabrina Mastrorocco, Luis Miguel Nuñez, BenedettaTerracciano, Ginevra Tomella, with the very young Raoul Turri (a pupil of the children’s courses) and the extraordinary participation of a four-legged performer, the harlequin Great Dane Talitha Cum.

Revolution as likeinAntigone. The new woman nurtures, develops, and keeps cultural relations alive. Strict and solemn, shewears an armour of resolute cuts, minimalvolumes, silent and deaf to the passing of time. Elena Gregori. “IMG_4073       from      a      study      on     everyday     objects”

Looking at the shapes of objects, finding other shapes, forgetting for the sake of absolute shape. Without doors and windows, the rooms of everyday life force us to look inwards, with new eyes. What is the point of habits? Pocket-sleeve-neck-pocket-leg, the connotation changes and neutralises values, resistance is in the endless search.

Anna Vedovelli. Aufführung

In the depths of nowhere, the body screams. Imprisoned in representations of representations, it must destroy intellectual history and its fruits, merge horizons into a surface of exchange between faces, spirits, forms. The theatrical fact is the only means to awaken and intertwine myth and conscience, to build a different civilisation. The answer is art, it’s (Art)aud.

Alessia Monachino. decostructing reality

Deconstructing and reinventing reality, unravelling the world and covering it with questions. In the accumulation of disintegration, excess is recognised, the abstract body solidifies, pure geometric forms take on consistency and lead to a progressive loss of presence. Man bounces around in a world of exhausted figures to be destroyed and reinvented.

Dara Silva Bulleri.nós -pronome comfunçào de sujeito

Nós-Noi, identity and rebellion. A noble, ancient and stratified community, the arcane and profound interweaving of rites and sensations between Orixas and Catholic worship. Garments made of cloth passed from hand to hand come to life in dance steps, transformed into everyday idols, revealing Salvador de Bahia’s sense of the sacred, for the journey of a contemporary Orpheus.

Marco Terenzi. PATRIZIA-Donna come la guerra”

The woman struggles, the woman resists. Guardian of memory, the woman works and holds up the fragile bonds that make existence possible. She walks dazzlingly, her light and fragile garments revealing an ancient and welcoming femininity, the moods of a neo-realist heroine. She walks haughtily and resolutely, wearing a sharply cut, angular uniform, ready to fight, mythologisingpresent and past.

Andrea Annarita Mazza. ENTRANO TUTTI SENZA BUSSARE

The reformed outfit for the 21st century citizen: a place to exist regardless of class, gender, age; a temperature regulating device ready to face changing climatic challenges; a structure that relates to space in a changing and flexible way. Fluidly, the unjustified reality of the present finds a reason, in outrage at its abnormalities.

Elia Docente. “Les Correspondance” – Make your own REVOLUTION, now

The fightgoes on and his new uniformis ready. Waste isforbidden, oldclothes are taken apart and sewn back onto new bodies, creating new colours, re-moulding with flexibility and speed. The new armouris ready, itadvancescompactly, itunfolds and warns of a possible future, worn and dazzlingat the same time. Cours, camarade, le vieux monde est derrièretoi.

Luca Bianco. LAGRANDE: SISTEMA

Modern Times. Crushed by mechanisation, contemporary man writes the new manifesto of functionalism. Function explains form and clothes the modern worker: intricate grids and electronic devices, a natural extension of the body, a celebration of work. Drawn into a new life programme, circuits and gears illuminate the dystopian future.

Gaetano Stea. INDIVIDUO L’1ND1V1DUO

Down with love, down with expression. Abandoned to a sense of the relativity of things, man takes refuge in a list of measures, a combination of modules that embrace his body, annul it and give shape to it. Individual intentions creep into the calm lines, the subject withdraws into himself, expands into new forms, and meticulously repeats himself.

Susanna Dalgrosso. Behinde

Children make the revolution. Their secret lies in observing carefully, guarding things, talking to everyday objects and recognising their soul. The objects are alive and talk, they tell stories from another era, they cancel the flow of events. Our teddy bear sings the truth about the world under a dome of white stars.

Evelyn Bressan (Shoes and Accessories Design).I N V I S I B I L I O

An invitation to feel. It is an experience that values the invisible in all its forms: from atomic interactions, to the past and future of a body, to emotions. It studies the way in which the invisible shapes the visible, through process and movement.

Penelope Bazzani (Shoes and Accessories Design). Myosotis

Designing – inventing shapes, fabricating them, the natural extension of the body. Designing – placing the body in a space, in conversation with the surrounding environment, inserted, defended. Designing – reinventing identity, enhancing beauty. Designing for all, reconstructing the world respecting diversity, designing to give voice to being.

ANNACHIARA BAZZI (Jewelry Design). now.here.void

Can the void be materialized? How can the invisible be made visible?Light becomes a necessary means to reveal, in a subtle way, that beyond the tangible reality there is something else waiting to be revealed. Alabaster, a semi-transparent material, becomes the right tool to show that there is something that exists and that we cannot see. When placed against the light, the jewels reveal, behind their elliptical shape, an inscription that reads “VISIBILE”.
