MOSSI FALL WINTER 2022 – 2023 COLLECTION AT PARIS FASHION WEEK
It all starts with a shroud. Traditionally an item of bed linen, the shroud gradually became a garment, the last one that we carry with us. Moved by recent personal events, Mossi Traoré has been focused on the idea of clothes that create a connection. Textile items that occupy our everyday lives, clothes also represent the key moments in our lives, serving as reminders of what is an inevitably punctuated experience.
It is these specific moments, these suspended experiences, to which this collection pays tribute. A connection between the finite: the item, and the infinite: the looks. A connection between the profane: the outfit, and the sacred: the wearer’s personal intentions. A connection between the before of manufacture, and the after of updating the fashion memory.
Like an intermediary between the MOSSI projects and their twists, this Fall Winter 2022 – 2023 collection also signals the end of a cycle and the emergence of something new for the brand.
By joining with the creations of the artist Angélique Lefèvre, who works exclusively in white using three materials, the Mossi garments have encountered a physical presence. Bodies that are not rigid, but protected, which is quite literally illustrated by the appearance of puffa jackets, a first for the brand. Functional and versatile, the clothes are designed to offer support in our everyday lives, while challenging our understanding of life cycles, of fashion cycles. If life cycles cause us to evolve, then clothes, in turn, cause us to act. Like a silent yet tactile call to action, it is upon contact with the body that garments become silhouettes, true moving sculptures.
Through her work, the sculptor Angélique Lefèvre challenges the concept of permanence. Her sculptures of everyday objects such as bags, sneakers and hats, made from organdy, resin or PET negate the issue of trends, paying tribute to the present continuous. Her technique, which combines sculpture, stitching and embroidery, highlights archetypal figures that cultivate a new outlook on industrial production. A sculptor in touch with the imagery of her time, Angélique Lefèvre also tackles timeless themes with the skeleton sketches featured in the Autumn/Winter 2022-2023 collection.
Remaining faithful to the ubiquitous colour palette of wardrobe basics, Mossi Traoré invariably works in black and white, to which he adds shades of blue for this season. The midnight blue patterns, extracts from Angélique Lefèvre’s drawings, were obtained using scans of watercolour prints. The resulting X-ray-like transparency reinforces the story told by the garments in a collection inspired by a sense of disruption, by a more or less subtle extimity.
Our loungewear items are made with enveloping materials that cover more than just fashion items, such as cotton and woven wool. A new material, “milk fibre”, enters the collection, joining the studio’s preferred textiles. Comprising the very fine micromodal and 30% milk fibre, this material developed by the teams requires ten times less water than cotton and blends with other breathable fibres.
The silhouettes, sculptural and flared, flowing and voluminous, highlight a radical customised approach. The bias cut skirts, facilitating movement, and the layering of clothing items evokes this collective movement that only a collection can produce. These silhouettes give rise to styling rich enough to satisfy our numerous requirements for protection. A certain over-styling, integrated into the manufacturing process, can be seen in the four-sleeved dress and the coat dress.
The entire Fall Winter 2022 – 2023 collection has been developed to give bodies, numerous and diverse, the final word in a story that evolves according to our encounters, between permanence and unpredictable leaps. This season’s silhouettes, which remain accessible and designed for women’s everyday lives, highlight original shapes and details that create a daring look in a dynamic relationship with their surroundings.
