MIXED
Matching without mixing is a waste of opportunities. This is the motto of THEFOUR’s new collection. Most of the great and strong things are mixed. Think about the spices, the cocktails, the concrete in our walls and even us – humans. Physically, biologically or culturally – either way, compounding enriches our life and bonds us together organically.
The designers of THEFOUR, Anett and Marci believe that stirring different ingredients together can lead to synergies that are essential to the improvement of humanity in the long run. Successful contact between different groups can lead to the exchange of ideas resulting in advancement on all sides.
THEFOUR’s Spring / Summer 2023 collection focuses on unexpected pairings. The designers’ aim is to create complex garments containing elements of different origins, creating bold outfits for multicultural minds. The core silhouette is inspired by oversized batwing jackets of the late 20th century, yet through the materials, the designs present a contemporary aesthetic.
The noisy color palette is collected from around the world: African prints and woven kente from Ghana (representing Anett’s roots) are paired with Swabian silk damask from Bezdan (Marci’s birth town in Vojvodina, northernmost part of Serbia near the Hungarian border) and complemented with deadstock materials from Italy, France, Morocco, Thailand and Hungary.
These textiles, used in a patchwork-like fabric manipulation, mirror an amalgam of cultures, different traditions and technologies, sustainability, and a personal touch from the two designers’ past as well as define the intricate details on the pieces.
The jackets are accompanied by draped T-shirts and wide-legged pants: simple yet unique pieces, thanks to the handmade batik paint. The outfits represent the ever changing varieties of the human being.
