Rainmaker SS24 at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo

Set in the beautiful nature surrounding Omi and Moriyama, the Sagawa Art Museum is located in a scenic area overlooking Mt. Hieiand Mt. Hira, and Lake Biwa right in the forefront.

The Rainmaker SS24 Collection runway movie was shot at the Raku Kichizaemon Hall, which was completed in 2007 inside the Sagawa Art Museum.

The museum was designed and supervised by Raku Naoiri, the 15th generation Kichizaemon, in order to show the tradition of the Raku family and the innovative beauty of its form.

The underground space buried in the water garden, the soft sunlight that penetrates the surface of the water, and the multi-layered shadows that capture and assimilate nature awaken the five senses and work on our subconscious.

For Rainmaker Spring Summer 2024 collection, the design was inspired by the famous painting “Iris flower painting” by Korin Ogata, one of the representative painters of the Rinpa school of art, which was especially proliferate in the middle of the Edo period.

Following the custom of inheriting the school by assimilation, he tried to create a contemporary Rimpa expression by using modern materials and techniques that combine traditional baking foil with lacquer paint.

This shares a kindred spirit and aesthetic sense with the brand concept of crossing East and West.

From Rainmaker Spring Summer 2024 / SS24 collection, The graceful comfort of Japanese clothing, the rich drape created by blank spaces, and the characteristic curves and decorations of Western clothing of the same era all pursued the idea of “beauty as a function” rather than spec-based ideas of “beautifully functional” as well as expressing the “beauty of truncation” that is not found in regular daily wear.
