Stone Island Debut The Compass Inside – A Film by Jeremy Elkin

STONE ISLAND DEBUT THE COMPASS INSIDE – A FILM BY JEREMY ELKIN DURING NEW YORK FASHION WEEK.

February 8th, 2024, New York – Stone Island presents The Compass Inside, a new short film by director Jeremy Elkin, embodying Stone Island’s manifesto of the same name. The Compass Inside features members of the Stone Island global community, including director Spike Lee, footballer João Felix, actress Jodie Turner-Smith and designer Germans Ermičs, shot at 15 locations around the world.

These scenes are interspersed with footage from the Stone Island factories in Ravarino, Italy, to detail the relationship between lab and life: the unique connection between how Stone Island is made, and how it is worn. Elkin travelled to the Emilia-Romagna district of Italy to capture Stone Island’s roots in the famous industrial design of the area, where it bases its experimentation and research.

The film will debut on Stone Island’s YouTube channel on February 8. That evening, the Stone Island community will gather at Stone Island’s New York flagship store in SoHo to celebrate The Compass Inside. Held on the first day of New York Fashion Week, the premiere screening will be followed by vinyl-only sets from New York club culture legends Large Professor (Nas, A Union Called Quest) and Boogie Blind (The X-Ecutioners).

“The Compass Inside is a film rooted in process, craftsmanship, artistry and community. It’s about the people who wear Stone Island as they go about their day-to-day lives, and the artisans who make the garments, bringing the Stone Island manifesto to life,” says director Jeremy Elkin.

“Jeremy’s film perfectly captures the sense of purpose in the Stone Island manifesto, The Compass Inside. The narrative reflects the symbiotic relationship between brand, product and community that is unique to Stone Island,” says Robert Triefus, CEO of Stone Island.

The Compass Inside tracks members of the Stone Island community in moments of creativity and reflection. The artist Soldier is filmed in his East London studio; tea caddy maker Takahiro Yagi of Kaikado crafts a single sheet of metal with a wooden hammer; designer Germans Ermičs manipulates glass; each wearing Stone Island.

Director Spike Lee considers the idea of community in Brooklyn, New York, while actor Jodie Turner-Smith discusses the impact of Jamaica on British life as she walks around the Brixton neighbourhood of London. Stone Island collectors Chokkan and Winiche are caught in conversation in Tokyo, while photographer Peter Sutherland and skateboarder Sage Elsesser share a moment by the water at Inwood Hill Park, New York.

The director cut and 90-second film feature an original composition by Billy McFeely with narration by Dave. The full-length director’s cut features a score by an ensemble led by Michael Muller (Balmorhea), with narration in various languages by Dave, Germans Ermičs, Winiche, and Carlo Rivetti.
