Lauren Sanchez Wears Oscar de la Renta at The Met Gala 2024

Lauren Sanchez makes her Met Gala debut an exquisite custom rosette mosaic gown with pearl and mirrored appliqués.

The corseted noir velvet bustier leads into an elegant full clover sculptured skirt that blooms prominently outward on four sides. The roughly 2,000 mosaic appliqués vary in hues of pearlescent, mirrored and opaque white, and are also diversified in shape and size, to produce this degrade mosaic effect.

The embroidery concept is derived from Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2024 “stained glass” gown. Echoing J.G. Ballard’s The Garden of Time”, this embroidery is also emblematic of the crystalized flowers in Ballard’s essay.

This hand-embroidered gown took roughly 600 hours to complete and is an exquisite example of Oscar de la Renta’s mastery in reimagining how to honor the brand’s heritage muse of which is nature itself.
