David Koma Resort 2025 at London Fashion
It is the delicate dance between nature and art. For Resort 2025 David Koma explores the profound metamorphosis where the boundaries between human and animal, primal and sophisticated dissolve into one harmonious entity. The collection is a celebration of the eternal cycle of change, where garments become a testament to the beauty found in the convergence of the organic and the crafted.
This season draws inspirations from two remarkable women: Isabelle Albuquerque, whose striking life-size hybrid sculpture seamlessly blends the artist’s human form with that of a fawn, and the legendary model Veruschka, a pioneer of transformative body paint. The latter created iconic images camouflaging her body against natural backdrops or adorning herself entirely in animal print paint.
These transformations echo ancient mythologies, where deities transcend human limitations by embracing their animalistic counterparts. In homage to these metamorphoses, David Koma Resort 2025 collection delves into the dynamic interplay of strength and vulnerability, the instinctual and the artistic.
Diverse range of textures and prints take centre stage. Silky soft long raffia cascades down the sides of sequin skirts, evoking the flowing mane of a horse, or appears as a statement shoe detail.
Short raffia, with a feather-like quality, frames the seams of dresses and is voluminously stitched onto jackets, reinterpreting the traditional feather boa or fur stole. Zebra-like pattern derived from the organic lines of wood grain, is featured on denim trenches and fiery red transparent pieces. The deer hide print is manipulated to contour the female form, appearing on swimsuits, bodycon dresses, capes, shoes, and bags. Anillustration of a fawn adorns and elevates the casual grey rib and crisp white shirt.
Silk transparent jersey is stretched across crinoline and suspended away from the body to create an athletic interpretation of a bustle petticoat skirt, combining structure and angular lines with a soft, delicate touch. In a tribute to the equestrian world, a leather saddle is reimagined as a wrap mini skirt and a bonded satin cape gilet.
David Koma Resort 2025, this season, the designers’ signature embroidery is manifesting as organic faceted crystals scattered across transparent beige power mesh bikini pants or black silky cowhide sleeveless jackets, reminiscent of the natural spots of a deer. Irregular crystal buckles suspend draped tailoring wool and liquid jersey diagonally across the wearer’s body. Silver metallic chains form long skirts, armour-like tops, and drape from satin scarves and necklines, creating a waterfall effect. Across shoulders and hips, crystallized claw details cinch ruched fluid jersey to create ornate yet fiercely animalistic designs.
