Massimo Osti Studio Launch Sailing Edition and Massimo Osti Studio official partner of Alberto Riva with entitled Chapter 05 ‘About Sailing’

Massimo Osti Studio announces the partnership with Alberto Riva, Italian sailor and engineer, involved for years in offshore racing.

An eclectic sailor and sports climber, Riva is renowned for his ability to combine his sailing training, born on the family boat, a vintage ’79 hull, with highly specialized technical expertise.

In line with this approach, over the last few years Riva has sailed in the Mini 6.50 class, taking first place in the 2021 international ranking and winning several regattas in the Mediterranean and Atlantic.

The three-year collaboration will see Massimo Osti Studio amongst Alberto Riva’s official sponsors from June 2024. The partnership will be inaugurated with the Italian sailor’s participation with the Acrobatica Sailing Team in the Transat Québec-Saint-Malo, the oldest non-stop ocean race from west to east, aboard the Acrobatica Class 40 boat.

The project celebrates Massimo Osti and Alberto Riva’s shared passion for the sea. A dreamlike narrative that explores the relationship of interdependence between man and the ever-changing marine environment, seen from two different perspectives.

Navigation is a journey of constant stimulation between body and mind. The preparatory technique, on the one hand, and the poetic act of enriching one’s experience, on the other, give rise to a process highly individual and unique in all its facets.

For Riva, sailing represents an engineering and sporting challenge where every detail makes a difference. The unpredictability of nautical practice intersects with personal human experience, requiring the development of a toxic-physical balance. Solo sailing involves a strategic and decision-making approach, relying entirely on one’s own skills and intuition. It is a combination of emotions, reflection, concentration and adaptability, just between yourself and the sea.

‘The sea is the place where I feel most at home and most free from the judgement of others; at sea, only nature decides. It is also the place where I spend most of my time, apart from ports and shipyards, and where I can live intensely my two passions, sailing and technology. Meeting Massimo Osti Studio was easy because we share a love of the sea, a passion for materials and for experimenting with new forms and concepts’.

Alberto Riva, ocean sailor

For Massimo Osti, the sea has always been a source of poetic inspiration and introspection, paying close consideration to functionality and the technical aspects of nautical clothing. Like Riva, the Bolognese designer loved to sail alone on his boats to escape the frenzy of his work. The sea was a way to reconnect with his being, to find a sense of peace and inner calmness.

‘My father loved the sea and sailing because he could reconnect with his meditative side which didn’t find enough space in his work. On the boat, he was on his own, thinking and disconnected from everything else’.

All these elements that characterize Massimo Osti and Alberto Riva, from the fascination for technology to the emotional relationship with sailing, culminate in Chapter 05 ‘About Sailing’. The Chapter includes five distinctive garments, including a jacket and a vest in Satin Rubber, a fabric manufactured from cotton coated with a polyurethane film and double dyed.

Massimo Osti Studio Sailing Edition Chapter 05 ‘About Sailing’ will be available exclusively on massimoosti.com from 3rd July 2024.
