Nanushka SS25 / Spring/Summer 2025 during New York Fashion Week with Titled ‘Paper’ on September 7th, 2024 New York.
Nanushka Spring/Summer 2025 collection marks the brand’s 20th anniversary, drawing inspiration from Founder and Creative Director Sandra Sándor’s past years designing, building and evolving Nanushka. Craftsmanship, a cornerstone of the brand ethos, emphasizes the human aspect within the intricate process of garment creation. With fabric manipulation and paper cutting as a key storytelling theme, each piece in the SS25 collection embodies the grounded philosophy of human touch. Nanushka SS25 l Spring/Summer 2025 serves as a nostalgic reflection on the brand’s journey while appreciating the present and turning the page towards the future.
Gathered from various art history and design books, physical papers have been the central reference for the season, signifying going back to the basics of research, and physically turning the page to inspire the future. References of conceptual artist Robert Morris’ work is a form of inspiration used to build on the brand’s existing technical fabric development. This minimalist style notably influenced two hero garments in the collection, with a mixture of regenerated leather and wool silk to create a modular cape. Nanushka SS25 / Spring/Summer 2025 collection also debuts paper knitted forms and tree-shaped crochet cutouts, extending Nanushka’s vision of unique, handcrafted pieces. For a refreshed focus on knitwear, older fabrics are cut and handknit into a new texture, making the most of excess stock materials.
Through a deep fascination of creative manipulation and handicraft, paper is translated into fabric, highlighted with new poplin fringe. With the continued use of excess material, pleated poplin is upcycled through slicing, fringing and layering; creating a new cycle of life within the garments. This technique is featured across Nanushka SS25 / Spring/Summer 2025 collection utilizing the core balance of Nanushka’s design capabilities. Displayed through innovative fabric stories, the focus remains on the transformative powers of manipulation.
Reintroducing the brand’s focus through non-traditional senses, proportion is seen in the way the collection balances color, scale and silhouette – playing with ratios is a true signifier of what it means to be Nanushka. Okobor™ is elevated through the accentuation of poplin fur and tassels. Fabric looping is a new technique this season, creating a 3D effect displayed in both a miniskirt and halter top set, additionally showcasing an innovative way of exploring proportion, creating balance in experimentation.
With the softer, yet impactful use of hardware, tailoring is enhanced with western belt details and metal hardware, while satin and rib jersey fabric blocking adds fluidity and draped elegance to the silhouettes. A sense of relaxed dressing is seen through the introduction of metallic pleat pajama set with an Alt-Nappa belt, resulting in a modernized classic. House Kopjafa symbol charms hang delicately from the sleeves of raw silk, subtly integrating the brand’s heritage. Furthermore, Alt-Nappa tiles of house Kopjafa symbols are hand-stitched together, creating the Sandi Bag in both black and moonbeam. The hero bag of the season exhibits exquisite craftsmanship and an advancement in the brand’s accessories offering for seasons to come.
With neutral tones dominating womenswear, the classic black and creme is enhanced with new hues of henna, red orange, olive and lime. Feature patterns are refreshed, offering a cheetah green/yellow, and a variation of stripes. Though mainly focused through darker hues, sand, gray and pale yellow add character to Nanushka SS25 collection.
“Reflecting on the past 20 years of Nanushka has been a very emotional process for myself and the entire Nanushka team. It was evident that the focus of this collection is to celebrate the design processes that make Nanushka. It was imperative to highlight the human touch process of design, and all the integral brand stories that we’ve put into this celebratory collection.” Sandra Sándor, Nanushka Founder and Creative Director
