Torishéju Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 during Paris Fashion Week entitled ‘LA NEF DES FOUS’

In ‘La Nef Des Fous’, or ‘The Ship of Fools’, Torishéju Dumi stages a vision of contemporary chaos based on a Dark Ages parable of social collapse as painted by Hieronymus Bosch.

Torishéju Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25 collection imagines a decadent aristocracy aboard a sinking ship. No clear leader emerges to steer things homeward; instead, the group is given over to pretense and performance, a thin charade of order.

Details of Torishéju Spring/Summer 2025 / SS25, dressed in lavish eveningwear from tailcoats to forking dresses, the ship’s fops, dandies, jesters and charlatans clamour for control on board, but soon awaken to the reality of their fate on the water. As the narrative unfolds, the clothes begin to bear the marks of panic. Thrown on in a frenzy, shirts are ripped, socks and stockings stretched taut, and fine fabrics hang tattered from the body. The billowing, ballooning materials, once symbols of luxury, now become liabilities, weighed down in the water and ill suited for survival.

Hysteria takes hold as the ship plays out a twisted microcosm of social entropy. Inspired by the Titanic’s flawed cork buoyancy vests, Dumi fills the translucent outer layers of dresses, skirts, and vests with balled clusters of studio offcuts. The ship’s escaped and adrift are the remnants of a journey from decadence to decline, from fools to the damned.
