Brutal means rough and brutalist architecture includes a method called béton brut, raw concrete in French. The use of the functional and basic materials emphasizes the colors and shapes around them. The fusion of ethic and aesthetic of staining and deterioration of materials over time is still a very influential technique, which can also be applied in clothes as the fusion of functional gear and fashion.

In design eliminating the extra decorations and emphasizing the strength by linear figure mean functionalism, which prioritizes the function over the shape. Sometimes impressive line or shape are created and become intricate design and that makes function visual.

Talk about details of White Mountaineering FW25 / Fall Winter 2025 – 2026, The visualization of function, which we have been exploring for many years can be the elasticity of the material, body protecting function, functional materials like Gore-tex and new appearance by aging of natural fiber such as denim or wool. I believe that the combination of functional and natural materials is inspired by the philosophy of Brutalism and can stand out function and the beauty of material. The functional wear tested in the field is precisely the essence of functionalism. The layers of the colors like black and heather gray is visually connected to the undecorative and functional aesthetic of brutalist architecture.

The columns are sometimes designed as layered triangles to provide structural strength, which is the result of the function becoming design. We cannot help but feel the connection as our icon has been always triangle made by the two alphabets W and M.
