HUI Fall/Winter 2025 / FW25 at Milan Fashion Week entitled A journey into light from east to west.
HUI Fall/Winter 2025 collection is a beautiful fusion of tradition and contemporary design, highlighting the intersection of Eastern mythology and Western art history. Drawing inspiration from the myth of dawn and the rising sun, the collection symbolizes renewal and the connection between cultures. This collection features intricate reinterpretations of Qing Dynasty motifs, such as sun and cloud patterns, which are reimagined in semi-transparent organza, evoking the delicate play of light filtering through clouds. This poetic reflection of sunlight is a central theme, merging ancient symbols with modern aesthetics.
The journey into tradition continues with influences from Guizhou’s Bouyei and Miao communities. The Bouyei people’s earth fabric patterns carry a deep respect for nature, with geometric brocade motifs symbolizing migration and community development. These patterns, made with natural dyes from the local mountains, celebrate celestial bodies and landscapes, demonstrating a profound connection to the environment. Miao embroidery, featuring butterflies and birds, embodies freedom and hope, adding another layer of meaning to the collection’s borderless narrative.
A central element of HUI’s vision for HUI FW25 / Fall/Winter 2025 collection is the symbolic use of the red thread, which is explored both in the runway show and the accompanying installation. The performance, “The Guardians of Light,” saw artisans embroidering porcelain before the audience’s eyes, blending ancient techniques with contemporary design. The collective participation in this ritual, where attendees could tie a red thread or take home a piece of the installation, invited everyone to be part of the shared journey of light, fate, and resilience.
Beyond HUI FW25 / Fall/Winter 2025 runway, HUI has expanded this vision through “The Weaving of Light,” a project by the HUI Foundation. In collaboration with LeSciure, a group focused on collective well-being, and Chinese artist-therapist Yuan Yuan, women from diverse backgrounds have woven red threads onto ceramic fragments, transforming them into symbols of hope. This collective art project brings together different generations and cultures, further enhancing the collection’s message of unity, resilience, and light.
