OSSOU introduce Heritage of the American West
Introducing OSSOU, Bare-boned, Essential, Enduring Creative Directors Nina Khosla and Talia Shuvalov launch a ready-to-wear brand that explores the interplay between heritage and modernity
June 4, 2025 – New York, NY: OSSOU, a new women’s ready-to-wear brand, launches today with a singular vision: to elevate the foundation of a modern wardrobe. Grounded in the idea of durability and longevity, the design philosophy embraces a reinvention of traditional forms. The name OSSOU, derived from the word bone – the quiet structure beneath everything – reflects the brand’s ethos.
At the helm are Creative Directors Nina Khosla and Talia Shuvalov, whose combined perspectives shape OSSOU’s distinctive aesthetic. “The collection began with a desire to strip down to what is fundamental. We approached the design as if it were architecture – looking at forms that support and endure. There is also a deeper symbolism in the name itself – bone is elemental and complex in its simplicity. This duality is central to how we approached the collection, creating garments that feel both reduced and richly constructed,” says Shuvalov. Khosla adds: “Growing up in San Francisco, the birthplace of the jean, created a sense of curiosity for denim, a fabric so intertwined with the heritage of the American West. I wanted to explore denim as a premium luxury material, make it more artful and considered, and showcase how it can become the backbone of a refined wardrobe for a modern woman today.”
Anchored in jackets, shirting, and knits that are meticulously designed to complement and elevate the jean, the collection brings a sense of quiet strength and raw beauty inspired by the vastness of western landscapes. Using the finest quality Japanese denim, the jeans are made in Los Angeles, showcasing clean, earthy tones that reveal texture and twill. Yarn-dyed colored denim is treated like indigo and ages with the same character. Fading, patina, and soft creases are not seen as flaws, but rather a sign of a well-lived garment.
The ready-to-wear is crafted in Europe from carefully sourced Italian fabrics. Soft leather is used in shirts and shorts, enhanced with contrast stitching. Cotton and taffeta shirts showcase trapunto stitching—a technique inspired by couture. Jackets are tailored to accentuate the waist, paying homage to the female form and creating a streamlined silhouette. From a light-as-air silk denim with a slight sheen to an innovative laser process that renders a velvety texture mirroring chenille, OSSOU will feature luxurious and unique materials throughout the collection.
Custom hardware, designed in collaboration with industrial designer David Caon, integrates seamlessly into the wearability of the jeans. The bespoke shank is crafted with two interlocking pieces – one in brushed nickel and the other in polished gold – offering a quiet contrast and elevated finish.
Asymmetrical bar tacks, rain drop rivets, and a mixed-metal zipper transform typically functional details into more considered gestures. OSSOU redefines denim as the North Star of a wardrobe – speaking to what is fundamental, refined and lasting. The collection is available now at ossou.com, with prices ranging $295 to $1,295.
